Andrew John Minzak, age 76, passed away in Columbia, Maryland on November 19, 2024.
Born January 17, 1948 in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania, Son of Andrew Minzak Jr. and Margaret Martinka. Andrew graduated from Hopewell High School and thereafter enlisted in the United States Navy. He lived in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania, Washington, DC, Laurel, Maryland and Columbia, Maryland. Andrew worked in Washington, DC as a police officer and detective for 29 years until retiring in December of 2000.
Andrew John Minzak is survived by his son Mark Minzak and wife Brittany Minzak, daughter Stephanie Minzak, grandchildren Eli, Noelle and Emma, siblings Cathy Oros, Regina Falick, and Thomas Minzak, along with several nieces and nephews. Andrew was preceded in death by his wife Jean Minzak of 37 years, sister Margaret Mayes, brother Edward Minzak and brother in-law John Oros.
A funeral service will be held at the Chapel at Donaldson Funeral Home, P.A. 313 Talbott Avenue, Laurel, Maryland 20707 on Monday, November 25th at 2pm.
Andrew, also known as Johnny or Zak to his family/friends, was known for his love of hunting whitetail deer in Pennsylvania, an interest that he passed down to his son and his grandson. Andrew was also lifelong Pittsburgh Steelers fan, a law enforcement patch collector and an admirer of classic cars.
Andrew was a devout husband, father, brother and uncle to his family. A well-respected police officer and detective amongst his peers, military veteran, "country boy" and a man who loved and served his country faithfully.
