I worked with Andy at Murphy and Durieu and I remember him fondly. He was a wonderful person and very devoted to his wife and kids, he spoke of them everyday. It saddens me he did not get to see his kids grow up. I think of him often, God bless.

I did not know Andrew or any of the other victims of 9/11. On the 10th anniversary, my church held a town-wide tribute to everyday heros in our community and in the military, and we also remembered and paid respect to all those who lost their lives. For part of the program, small blue glow sticks were passed out to everyone, one for each victim, and each one had someone's name printed on it, and where they had died. I got Andrew's stick. The lights were turned off and everyone lit up their stick at the same time, and we raised our sticks in the air as each different location was read. At the end, it was a beautiful sight--the soft glow of thousands of blue lights in the dark, standing still in the air as we all sat silently, praying for the person our light represented. It was also so sad, to know that each light was a life that was cut short. I kept my stick, it sits on my desk at work now. I am not sure why I kept it, but now it reminds me daily how quickly something wonderful can be taken away, even while doing something as mundane as sitting at your computer in the morning. It also reminds me to thank God every day for what I have, and to not take anything for granted. I pray for Andrew and his family every day. I know you will never forget him, and now I won't either.

Thinking of Andy 10 years later and wanted to say, it still hurts I was talking with Andy on the phone that god awful day when the phone lines went out. It haunts me almost every day....

I was lucky enough to have Emma in my third grade class. What a special girl! Not a day went by that I didn't look into her eyes and think, "your daddy would be so proud!" Peace and Happiness from now on to you all!

Dear family and friends of Andrew Stern,

I went to a church service today and picked up a prayer card today. It had Andrew Stern's name on it. I will remember all of you in my prayers. I will be praying for peace to enter your lives and for God's love to overflow in the days to follow. God bless you all.

As the 1st anniversary of Sept. 11 draws near, you are in my thoughts and prayers. I have a cousin, Brent, that lives in Bellmore, and he was on Rector St. Sept. 11, but made it home safely. God bless.

How blessed were we to spend that romantic weekend in New York with Katie and Andy? Karl considered Andy a great friend and co-worker and I always looked forward to seeing him and Katie any chance I could get. It was easy to see why Karl and Andy got along so well because they shared the same values regarding family, work and living life to the fullest. Life was too short for you Andy, but you leave a strong legacy for Katie, Emma and Danny.

We are tremendously sorry for your loss of Andrew and yet very glad you had a romantic evening with him. Our hearts cry with you.

America Cries

We see your sorrow-

and our hearts cry....

We can not erase your pain

but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-

-the American people-

are beside you.

We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,

the strength that gives you courage,

and the words to lighten your spirits.

And when we are left speechless

may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts

to ease your sorrow.

May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-

-the American people-

face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn

To Barbara - You may not remember me - I'm Miriam's (From Temple Emanu-El) daughter in Massachusetts. We met when my mother was in the hospital after her fall in Temple several years ago. Your friendship and comfort then were so appreciated....I hope that you, Katie, your grandchildren, and all the rest of your extended family will be "comforted among all the mourners of Zion" and that Andy's memory will serve as a blessing for all of you. I hope and pray that your path to healing will be made more bearable by the fact that millions of people world wide share your pain, as do my family and I. Unfortunately, there are no words that can reverse the facts of what happened, so we just pray for you to have the strength to go on in the face of such tragedy. With warmth in our hearts for all of you, B'shalom...Judy and Sam G.
