Andrew Thorndike Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Currie Funeral Home and Crematory on Dec. 5, 2025.
Andrew "Andy" Thompson Thorndike, age 71, of Wicomico Church, passed away on December 2, 2025, in Mechanicsville after a brief but difficult illness. He was lovingly cared for throughout his illness and was surrounded by family at the time of his passing.
Andy was born October 23, 1954 and grew up on his family farm, Magnolia, in Wicomico Church, VA. He graduated from Northumberland High School in 1973, attended Ferrum College and later studied agriculture. As a young man he used this knowledge to help his father work the family farm.
In 1987 Andy and his brother Hank Thorndike founded Dock Masters Marine Construction. Later, Hank continued with Dock Masters, while Andy and his wife Nancy started Dock Masters TNT Marine Construction based in Wicomico Church. Through his work and because of his friendly nature, Andy made many lifelong friends in the community.
Andy had a deep love of family. His home was always open for impromptu gatherings of friends and relatives, grilling for the crowd or steaming crabs for the company at his backyard pool. He also enjoyed spending time in Daytona Beach, FL where he basked in beach life and NASCAR.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy; his four children, Bonny Magerko and Abigail Thorndike, Lara Brady and Milo Brady; his sisters Susan Hunt, Sally Shepherd (Tony) and Anne Reisner; eight grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Andy had numerous beloved cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Greenough (Harry) Thorndike and Carolyn Fredrika (Fredi )Thorndike, his brother Hank; and sisters Alice, Evie and Olivia.
The family wishes to acknowledge the excellence of the Mechanicsville Memorial Regional Medical Center CCU nurses and doctors that kindly and carefully watched over him.

I am so sorry to hear of Andy's passing. "Vato" was the name we gave each other from High School onwards - he was the best of men. My sympathies go out to Nancy and family. Charles Rice
