Andy Lee Fonville, 75, was welcomed into the presence of his Savior, Jesus Christ on Thursday, October 15, 2026 after a lengthy illness. He graduated from Woodlawn High School in 1969 where he met the love of his life, Kathy Niten Fonville. Together they raised two children and spent 55 years together.
A graveside service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 20, 2026 at Memorial Gardens North in Blanchard, Louisiana. Officiating the service will be Casey Hall. A visitation will be held starting at 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. prior to the graveside at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2500 Southside Dr., Shreveport, Louisiana.
Andy was a proud Vietnam Veteran while serving in the United States Air Force. He retired after a long career with KCS Railroad.
Poppa, as he was lovingly called by his grandchildren, had a remarkable gift for fixing anything from flat tires, boat motors, to any and all car issues. Poppa was the one everyone called to help. In his last days, he was still making sure the oil was checked and tires were good on his granddaughter's car.
When he was not underneath the hood of a car, he enjoyed spending time on the lake with his family, fishing, duck and deer hunting with his son, and spending beach vacations and Texas Rangers games with family.
It was obvious to anyone who met Andy that family was the most important thing to him which is the reason he fought so hard to stay with them. Next to family, baseball was something he enjoyed. Countless hours were spent watching games and organizing baseball cards with his daughter. She will miss their World Series predictions each year.
Andy was preceded in death by his parents, Andy and Arvedia Fonville; son, Kevin Fonville; brother-in-law, James Babineaux; and sister and brother-in-law, Gloria and Tex Hines.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 55 years, Kathy Fonville; daughter, Michelle Weddleton and husband Marc; grandchildren, Miranda Stevenson and husband, Bailey, Emily Weddleton and Christian Weddleton; sister, Barbara Babineaux; and nieces, Debbie Pence (Don), Stephanie Summers (Chris), Laura Wilson (Brian), and Amy Wallace; in addition to many great-nieces and friends.
The family would like to thank Dr. Ted Warren and Carolyn, Tonya, and Debbie, Dr. Anil Veluvolu, Kristy Cory, PA, Dr. Guillermo Padilla-Pineda, Dr. Huan Le, and Derrick Stevenson and Angie Trenor with Willis Knighton Health System. Your care and support will be forever remembered.
Honoring Andy as pallbearers will be Christian Weddleton, Marc Weddleton, Bailey Stevenson, Derrick Stevenson, Chris Summers, Brian Wilson, Ken Wilson, and Jeff Watson.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations may be made in memory of Andy to the charity of your choice.
