Angela Bracconeri Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Barrett Leber Funeral Home - Tenafly on Dec. 7, 2025.
Angela "Angie" DeAngelis, a woman whose life was defined by compassion, generosity, and unwavering service to others, passed peacefully on December 5, 2025, at the age of 105. On May 1, 1920, she was born in the vibrant Harlem neighborhood of Manhattan to Italian immigrant parents, Thomas and Maria DeAngelis. The youngest of four children, Angie assumed responsibility early in life, helping her mother with household duties and serving as a trusted translator for her family and neighbors, bridging cultures through language and kindness.

Angie was known throughout her life for her boundless generosity and selfless spirit. Whether cooking for neighbors, sewing costumes for school plays, hosting elaborate dinner parties or simply running errands for people, she never hesitated to lend a helping hand. Her quiet acts of kindness left a lasting impression on everyone she encountered.

From a young age, Angie displayed a natural talent for organization and event planning. When her high school prom was nearly canceled due to lack of coordination, Angie stepped in and transformed it into an unforgettable evening at Manhattan's legendary Cotton Club, featuring performances by Cab Calloway and Lena Horne. She later married her prom date, Leo Bracconeri.

Early in their marriage, Angie and Leo lived in the Bronx, New York, where three of their children were born. Alongside raising her young family, Angie devoted herself to caring for her ailing mother. In 1950, the family settled in Tenafly, New Jersey, where they raised five children in their home on Engle Street. Their home became a place of warmth and welcome to all who entered and boy, did they enter. There was always a party at the Bracconeri's or a least an amazing meal to enjoy.

Angie's faith and service were especially evident in her deep involvement with Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, which she considered her second home. She was a devoted fundraiser, member of the Mother's Guild, founder of the Children's Liturgy program, CCD teacher, lector, and long-time member of the "International Night" fundraising committee-her decorations for the event are still fondly remembered today. Her most cherished role, however, was serving as a Eucharistic Minister, bringing comfort and companionship to the elderly and infirm.

Her devotion to community extended further through her service on the Mayor's Committee for Seniors, as a Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts leader, and as a volunteer at the Tenafly Senior Center. An exceptional cook, Angie frequently prepared meals for friends and neighbors, especially during holidays. During the years she lived in Weston, Vermont, she lovingly prepared weekly meals for 20 Benedictine Monks at the Weston Priory. She also organized monthly birthday celebrations for residents at Tenafly House, ensuring no one was forgotten.

Angie is survived by her beloved children, Marie Greco (James Viapiano), Edward (Toni), Thomas, and Regina Carr; her cherished grandchildren, Angela Bader-Bavosa, Maria Handkowski (James), Patricia Eboli, Ashley Ward (Thomas), Kyle Teeter (Sydney), Kevin Teeter, Ryan Bracconeri, and John Carr IV (Sasha); and her adored great-grandchildren, Lee Dashti, Mathew VanDenHeuve, Cassidy Verdical, Mariah, Julianna, and Thomas Ward. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends who will forever carry her love in their hearts.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Maria DeAngelis; her beloved son, Leo Bracconeri III; her former husband, Leo Bracconeri Jr.; her brothers, Michael, Anthony (Tino), and Dominick; and her sons-in-law, Arthur Bader, Michael Greco, and John Carr III.

Angie's legacy is one of unwavering faith, tireless service, and a love that extended far beyond her family into every community she touched. Her life was a true testament to the power of kindness, and she will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
