Angelo Pompei Obituary

Angelo D. Pompei, 92, of Green Township, died Thursday, March 1, 2012, at home. Born and raised in The Bronx, Mr. Pompei lived in Shirley, Long Island, before moving to Green Township in 2009. He was a World War II United States Navy veteran. Mr. Pompei worked in electronic manufacturing and assembly for Lambda Electronics in Long Island, New York, and was later employed by the Defense Contracts & Administration Agency in Garden City, New York. An avid fisherman, he was a member of the Great South Bay Anglers and was a member of the Long Island Beach Buggy Association. Mr. Pompei taught boating and navigation for the Bronx Chapter of the U.S. Power Squadron. He also enjoyed ballroom dancing. The son of the late Bernardo and Angelina (Pepe) Pompei, Mr. Pompei is survived by his wife of 65 years, Santa (Fiorenza) Pompei; two sons, Daniel Pompei and his wife, Cara, of Green Township, and Thomas Pompei and Rose Codella, of Poughkeepsie, New York; five grandchildren, Nicole Acuri, Gregory Pompei, Eric Pompei, Carin Pompei and Alyssa Pompei. Funeral services will begin at 10:15 a.m. on Saturday at the Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High Street, Newton, followed by an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Good Shepherd R.C. Church, Route 517, Andover Borough. Visitation will be held on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to Karen Ann Quinlan Hospice, 99 Sparta Avenue, Newton, NJ 07860 or the Disabled American Vets, PO Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301 .
