Though we mourn her passing, heaven rejoices with the arrival of Angie Piper who passed into the loving arms of her Savior September 10, 2023. We are comforted in our belief that our mom is welcomed by her husband, parents and siblings who preceded and await her.

Mom was born May 13, 1933 in Canjilón, New Mexico to José León and Rafaelita Serrano, baptized in the Catholic Church with the given name María Angelina Serrano.  Nevertheless, throughout her life she was known as Angie or Angelina.  She married Joe Martínez in 1949 until 1962 with whom she had her three children – the loves of her life.  She later met and married her life partner Richard “Dick” Piper and they married in 1980.

Mom is preceded in death by her husband Dick, her parents, all her sisters and brothers-in-law:  Teddy (Simón) Hernandez, Jane (Nino) Martínez, Liria (Jerry) García, Elaisa (Leo) Jaramillo, and her older brother Juan and his first wife, Ruth Serrano.  Various nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly also preceded her.

Mom is survived by her devoted, loving and heartbroken children:  Beatrice Martinez (Al) Hansen and their children:  Justin (Holli) and Eric (Taryn Saxton), Alana (Kurt) and Alison (Jeremy); Lee (Ernestina) Martínez their children José,  María Angélica (Jonny Matich) and his son Danny; and Polly Ann (Greg) DesVoignes and their children Angela (Wayde), Jessica (Jared) and Shawn (Shoko).  Mom is also survived by Rich “Tad” Piper (Laura) and their children Aron (Bonnie), Melissa; and Donna (Tim) Lessley and their children Rocky (D’Nache), Jade Ellis (Shannon Richison) and Ian Lessley.  Finally, she is also survived by her younger brother Samuel, sister-in-law Gloria Serrano, and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, and great, great grandchildren all of whom were her favorites.  She will also be especially remembered by her nieces and nephews for her support to them in times of need, and all her numerous nieces and nephews by marriage who have never stopped calling her “Tia Angelina”.

Our families would like to express our heartfelt appreciation to Aspen Ridge Hospice for the amazing love, compassion and support all have provided us.  Particular appreciation goes to Ashlee, Marlee, Peter, Denise, Debbie as well as Wendy and the rest of their amazing staff.

Catholic Mass and Rosary will be held Friday, September 22, 2023 at 6:00 pm at Aaron’s Mortuary, 1050 South State Street,  Clearfield, Utah.  On Saturday, at 11:00 am, friends and family are invited to pay their respects followed by  a Celebration of Life at 12:00 noon also at Aaron’s Mortuary in Clearfield, Utah. Dedication of the Grave will be held in the Clearfield City Cemetery.

We will miss you terribly Mom, but we are comforted in the belief you are reunited with your devoted husband Dick, your parents and siblings who now accompany you.  Mom is free from her pain and the indignities of her disease, and at rest enveloped in her loving Savior’s embrace.  Thank you so much, Mom, for being such a loving and caring mother, for preparing us for life, and providing the example of how to gently and lovingly shepherd you into the next life. Thank you for coming … but… we’re sorry you had to go.

Que Dios te acompañe hasta que llegamos nosotros.  We love you, Mom!  You are gone but you will never be forgotten.  Indeed, now with your passing, we get the last word.  We love YOU more.
