Angie Volmert Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home - Vienna on Mar. 5, 2026.
Angie Volmert, age 59, of Vienna, was born on October 31, 1966, in St. Louis, MO, a daughter of Elaine James and James Volmert. She passed from this life on March 2, 2026.

Angie attended Visitation Inter-Parish grade school and Maries R-1 (Vienna) where she graduated in 1985. Angie was smart and made good grades. She was also an incredible athlete. She played and lettered in softball, basketball, and track. She was naturally gifted and received many athletic honors at the conference, district, regional, and state levels. Her most notable athletic accomplishment was helping lead the high school softball team as their shortstop and winning the Class 1A-2A State Softball Championship in 1983 and 1984.

After graduating high school, she worked several different jobs before landing her dream job. In 1992 she began working for the Missouri Department of Conservation at Meramec Spring Park. She was instrumental in the rearing and stocking of trout in the park, as well as other public fishing lakes, and streams. Angie had an incredible work ethic. She was reliable, committed, and trustworthy. With her, you knew things would get done and be done correctly. Her career spanned nearly 34 years with MDC, and she got to know many of the frequent park visitors and the James Foundation members who operate the park. She was well respected by those who knew her and worked with her.

Angie loved music. She taught herself how to play drums, and both acoustic and electric guitar. She played in a band for a short time. She enjoyed attending rock and roll concerts with family and friends. She also attended radio broadcast school and was a disc jockey at a radio station in St. Robert and Rolla. Music ran through her veins.

Angie helped her mother by cutting firewood, mowing grass, bush hogging, and being a handy man when something needed to be fixed. She was a gardener and canned many quarts of vegetables over the years. She also liked to build things and was most proud of a storage shed she constructed from locust logs.

She loved the outdoors from a young age. She spent countless hours fishing, kayaking, hunting for mushrooms and shed deer antlers, and watching wildlife. Speaking of fishing, Angie earned five (5) Missouri Master Angler certificates.

She is survived by her mother, Elaine James of Vienna; her stepmother, Linda Volmert of Iberia; her sister, Amy Wilson of Rolla; her nieces and nephews, Emily Sirois and husband, Matt of Rolla, Erica Sullivan of Rolla, Luke Sullivan and wife, Alex of Salem; and her great-niece, Cara Sirois. She will also be missed by her aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, James Volmert; paternal grandparents Louis and Alma (Fennewald) Volmert; maternal grandparents, Berthal and Hazel James; and brothers-in-law, William "David" Sullivan, and Monty Wilson.

Visitation for Angie will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2026, from 10 a.m. until the time of her memorial service at 12:30 p.m., all in the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home Chapel, 406 S. Main Street, Vienna, MO.

Immediately following the visitation, the Volmert family extends an invitation to all in attendance to share a meal with them at the Knights of Columbus Hall, Vienna, Missouri.

Her final wishes were to have her ashes scattered at the local rivers, streams, and lakes she fished at. She joked this was because she felt the fish should get revenge on her. The family ask in lieu of flowers memorial contributions to be made to the Maries R-1 Booster Club with envelopes available at the funeral home on the day of her memorial service or in care of Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, P.O. Box 250, Vienna, MO 65582. Or just take the time to celebrate Angie by enjoying the outdoors or a good rock and roll tune.
