Anil C. Mody: A Legacy of Love, Generosity, and Ingenuity
Anil C. Mody, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2024. He leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and unwavering support for his family and community. Born in Tanzania to Chandulal and Sharda Mody and raised in various regions of India, Anil's life was marked by remarkable achievements and heartfelt connections.
Anil began his journey with extensive travels as a young man and later graduated as an electrical engineer. In 1956, he married his childhood friend, Dhanlaxmi Mody. Together, they dreamed of a better future, which led Anil to emigrate to the United States in 1969 with only $8 in his pocket. Despite these humble beginnings, Anil quickly established himself in the insurance industry as a fire inspector, laying the foundation for a new life in America.
Once settled, Anil's first priority was his family. He brought over his wife, son, and various family members from India, helping them acclimate to their new home. Anil and Dhanlaxmi's home became a beacon of warmth and hospitality, affectionately known as "Ellis Island" to all who knew them. Their home was a sanctuary where many relatives and friends found comfort and support during their transition to life in America.
Anil's generosity extended beyond his immediate family. Known for his exceptional math skills, he became the go-to person for tax questions within his community, helping many navigate their accounting needs with expertise and care. His willingness to assist others reflected his selflessness and commitment to aiding those around him.
A true engineer and tinkerer at heart, Anil embraced the DIY culture of the US, teaching himself to build and fix just about anything. He enthusiastically passed these skills on to his son, nephews, and anyone eager to learn, leaving a lasting impact on their lives.
Anil cherished his close bond with his son, Mayank, and daughter-in-law, Kusum, as well as his beloved grandchildren, Chandni, George, Roshni, and Ravi. His joy only grew with the arrival of his great-grandchildren, Riyaan and Emilia, with whom he spent many precious moments.
Anil C. Mody lived a full and vibrant life, filled with love, laughter, and deep connections with family and friends from all corners of the globe. His legacy of kindness, generosity, and an indomitable spirit will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.
He is survived by his son, Mayank, daughter-in-law, Kusum, grandchildren Chandni, George, Roshni, and Ravi, and great-grandchildren, Riyaan and Emilia.
Anil's memory will forever live on in our hearts.
