Dr. Anita Louise Aebersold

Dr. Anita Louise Aebersold, DDS, beloved daughter, sister, partner, mother, and friend was released from the bonds of earth to be welcomed into the arms of her heavenly Father on August 11, 2025, in Little Rock, Arkansas, after a short but courageous battle with ALS. She was 70 years old.
Anita was born on April 25, 1955, in Saltville, Virginia, to Robert Charles Aebersold and Virginia Tilman Aebersold. She spent her childhood years in Westport, Connecticut; Youngstown, New York; and eventually Cleveland, Tennessee, where she graduated from Cleveland High School. From an early age, Anita demonstrated an inquisitive mind and a remarkable spirit of independence, never shying away from challenge or adventure.
After earning her dental hygienist certification at East Tennessee State University, she continued her education at the University of Tennessee Medical School in Memphis, where she completed her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. She was known for her brilliance in cosmetic and restorative dentistry-offering everything from veneers to root canals and implants-and built a loyal base of patients who were drawn to her warmth, precision, and uncanny ability to explain even the most complicated procedures with clarity and compassion.
In 1990, she founded Aebersold Family Dentistry in Little Rock, Arkansas, a practice that became known not only for excellent care but also for its heart. Anita believed deeply in showing up for people in need-often staying late to assist emergency cases. Her generosity and leadership caught the attention of local media when her clinic helped a teacher-patient in need of school supplies, further highlighting her deep commitment to community care.
Anita's life, however, was defined by far more than her professional success. She was endlessly curious and creatively fearless even teaching herself to weld in her 40s and converting part of her garage into a metalworking space, which she lovingly called her "retirement plan." She was a gifted water-skier (even performing tricks!), a strong tennis player in high school, and someone who delighted in camping, fishing, boating, and any outdoor adventure. She was a lifelong lover of the lake and beach, and even enjoyed time on a houseboat with her family.
She had an infectious laugh, an irreverent wit, and a personality that could light up a room-or a dental chair. A true original, Anita never needed permission to be herself. She was gritty and smart, endlessly industrious, a dog-lover, and a person who was never afraid to try something new. Her love for old movies, scary films, and "egg in a hole" with ketchup added to the unique tapestry of her character.
Anita is survived by her beloved spouse and life-partner, Ann Rhoads, with whom she shared a life rich in laughter, loyalty, and love; her cherished son, William Walker (31), who stood by her with strength and devotion throughout her battle with ALS; and her sister, Frances Jean Aebersold of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, as well as several beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Charles Aebersold, Jr.
Anita was a member of the Episcopal Church and lived out her faith with quiet conviction and generous action. Her values-compassion, integrity, resilience, and joy-were the guiding force of her life and are the legacy she leaves behind.
She fought ALS with dignity and grit, determined to reach her 70th birthday, which she did with grace in April of this year. As one family member put it, "She probably fought it for years before anyone knew-because that's just who she was. Strong. Witty. Unstoppable."
A formal celebration of life will be held Saturday, August 23rd, 2025, from 2:00–5:00 PM at Christ Episcopal Church, 509 Scott Street, Little Rock, AR 72201. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her memory to the ALS Association (www.ALS.org) or to Green Groceries (www.christchurchlr.org/green-groceries), a Christ Episcopal Church ministry providing groceries to Little Rock families in need, in honor of her courage and the causes she so bravely bore.
To know Anita was to witness fearless love, boundless energy, and the magic of a woman who could smile through anything. She will be deeply missed-and forever remembered.
