Anita Evelyn Baker
February 11, 1937- April 5, 2025
Anita Evelyn Baker was born February 11, 1937 in Yuma, Arizona to George and Evelyn (Annett) Vanasek. Her family lived in Wilmington, Delaware and then returned to Minneapolis, MN where Anita graduated from Central High School in 1954. Anita married the love of her life, John F. "Jack" Baker, on April 7, 1956 and they enjoyed 68 years of marriage.
Anita and Jack lived in Minneapolis, MN, Poughkeepsie, NY, and settled in Boulder, Colorado in 1966 where they raised 5 children. At retirement they moved from Boulder to Broomfield, CO and also were happy snowbirds wintering in Tucson, AZ.
Anita was a very loving and caring matriarch who managed the household and responsibility of raising her five children, Jean Marie Holman (William, Sedona, AZ), Sandra Lee Alexander (Dyarl, Lafayette,CO), Patricia Ann Chamberlain (Peter, Longmont, CO), Nancy Carol Spawn (Gerald "Jerry", Golden, CO) and James Patrick Baker (Elizabeth, Highlands Ranch, CO). Anita has 14 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren with another one on the way. She is preceded in death by her husband Jack, her parents, George & Evelyn Vanasek of Minneapolis, MN, and her brother George C. Vanasek of St. Cloud, MN. Anita is survived by siblings Geraldine Healey of Tucson, AZ, John Vanasek of King of Prussia, PA, Diane Ballentine of Minneapolis, MN and Kathleen Anderson of Minneapolis, MN.
Anita volunteered as a Girl Scout leader for many years and taught her children to become leaders. As well as raising her children she volunteered for many years at the Sister Carmen Center in Lafayette, CO. They hosted an exchange student from Germany for a year. She enjoyed helping school children learn to read in the elementary schools.
Dancing brought joy to her heart. Anita & Jack were both square and round dancers and traveled many places for special dances as well as taught many couples to dance. She loved sports especially the Rockies and the Broncos and she participated in many bowling leagues.
As a silent witness of her faithfulness she practiced her Catholic faith through bible studies and couples' ministry groups and as a Eucharistic minister. Time spent with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren brought Anita much joy.

Dear Jean, Sandy, Patty, Nancy and Jim,
One of the best things about Anita as my big sister is that she inspired me to enjoy PLAYING sports, being athletic. She was part of GAA (Girls Athletic Association all during high school. This was in the early 1950s before there were varsity (or any official) teams for girls in school. She led a good life, and had a good life. I'm SO sorry for your loss, especially so soon after losing your dad.
Love, Aunt Diane
