Anita Jo O'Dell, a beloved soul who radiated joy and laughter, passed away on November 28, 2025, in Wellington, Missouri. Born on March 13, 1967, in Kansas City, Missouri, she touched the hearts of many throughout her life with her infectious spirit and zest for adventure.
Anita's life was defined by her love for fun, laughter, and the thrill of the supernatural. She embraced her passion for ghost hunting, a hobby that brought her joy and excitement. Her affinity for animals mirrored the compassion she held in her heart, as did her enthusiasm for fishing and attending mud races. Each moment she spent indulging in these passions was a testament to her vibrant spirit.
Anita leaves behind a tapestry of cherished family and friends. She will be deeply missed by her loving life partner, Kevin DeVoss, and her devoted mother, Norma Hanthorn. She is also survived by her sister, Penny Brundige and her partner John Cosens, and her niece, Krystal Brundige and her partner Matt Rogers. Anita was a proud aunt to her nephews, Ronald Brundige and his partner Abbygail Schwind, Jordon Brundige, and her great nephews, Nathanial Brundige, Bryson Brundige, and Kavin Brundige. Each of them holds treasured memories of time spent with Anita, whose laughter and love will echo in their hearts forever.
Anita was preceded in death by her father, Joseph Hanthorn, her daughter, Samantha Jo DeVoss, her brother-in-law, Rodney W. Brundige, and her grandparents, John S. Harris and Martha N. Harris. Their absence has left a void in her family, but the love they shared continues to inspire and comfort those left behind.
To honor Anita’s vibrant spirit and all the joy she brought to this world, a visitation will be held at Speaks Suburban Chapel in Independence, MO, on December 10, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A graveside service will take place at Lobb Cemetery in Blue Springs, MO, on December 11, 2025, at 10:00 AM.
Though Anita has departed from this earth, her legacy of love and laughter will remain alive in the memories of those who had the privilege of knowing her. She was truly a gift to all, and her spirit will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of her loved ones.
