Anita Florence Wahlstrom, 96, a beloved mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend, and faithful Catholic, passed away peacefully on November 6, 2025, surrounded by family and religious Sisters of the Little Sisters of the Poor.
Anita was born on April 24, 1929, in Detroit, Michigan. She is survived by daughters Anne (Jack) Phillips, Marie (Mark) Ford, Jennifer (Steve) Land, Martha (Tony) Schneider, and sons Eric (Sue) Wahlstrom and Mat Wahlstrom, along with 11 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, John Motorojescu and Anna Onciu and her brother George Motorojescu.
Anita worked as a teacher’s aide in the Pike Township Central Elementary School for many years and was a longtime parishioner of St. Monica Catholic Church, Indianapolis, volunteering many hours in service to the parish. She will be remembered as a gifted seamstress, spending many hours in the sewing room of her home, making clothes for her children and grandchildren, wedding dresses for her daughters, vestments and liturgical items for St. Monica Church. She was also an avid quilter. A member of the World Apostolate of Fatima (Blue Army), Anita was devoted to her daily Rosary, offering prayers for family and friends, living and deceased. When her health declined, she entered St. Augustine Home for the Aged operated by the Little Sisters of the Poor where she was cared for lovingly by the Sisters and staff serving the residents of the home.
Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM on Saturday, November 15, at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 AM, followed by entombment. In appreciation for the service and dedication shown to their mother, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Little Sisters of the Poor, St. Augustine Home for the Aged, 2345 W. 86th St., Indianapolis, IN 46260.
