"A Winter Twilight, Angelina Weld Grimke (1880-1958)

A silence slipping around like death,
Yet chased by a whisper, a sigh, a breath;
One group of trees, lean, naked and cold,
One path that knows where the corn flowers were;
Lonely, apart, unyielding, one fir;
And over it softly leaning down,
One star that I loved ere the fields went brown."

Since the time Africans were brought to these shores our family dynamics became sorted. This was not of our doing, however, it demanded from us immense perseverance. It made the small branches in the family tree cherished, and eased the pain of the broken ones.

As it is my heart is broken and my pain lingers at the loss of my sister.
Rest in peace Ann Marie, 'til we meet again, in glory.
