Ann Hamilton Obituary

In loving memory of Ann Garvey Hamilton, who passed away peacefully on February 6, 2023, with her brother, C.J., at her side. Ann was born on March 4, 1959, in Olean, New York, to Marcia and Charles Garvey. Ann grew up with her siblings Gretchen, C.J., and Lisa after moving to Richardson, Texas, in 1967. Ann attended high school at Ursuline Academy where her love for photography began. She earned her degree in Fine Arts with an emphasis in Photography from The University of Texas at Austin.

After graduation, Ann began a successful career as a photographer in Dallas. Family and friends would say portraits are her specialty, as her beautiful work decorate their homes and will be cherished forever. Later in her career, she moved to Decatur, Georgia, as a Medical Photographer for the Veterans Affairs Hospital. Her passion grew as she captured the beautiful men and women that served our country with her amazing portraits. Her works of art adorn the halls of the Decatur VA Hospital.

Ann will be remembered as a giving, peace-loving daughter, sister and friend. Her smile lit up the room and will never be forgotten. Ann loved celebrating others and rarely missed a chance to show others how much she cared for them. Whether it was planning a party or a vacation, helping her niece or nephews move across the country, or caring for her mother, Ann was always there, helping, supporting and showing her love. Her generosity will be deeply missed by her loved ones.

Ann is preceded in death by her father, Charles Garvey, and sister, Gretchen Garvey. Ann is survived by her mother, Marcia Garvey; brother, C.J. Garvey; sister-in-law, Eileen O'Connor Garvey; sister, Lisa Garvey Sambrano; brother-in-law, Richard Sambrano. She is also survived by her nephews, William Garvey, John Garvey, Connor Garvey, Sam Garvey, Ricky Sambrano; niece, Brittany Sambrano Barros; nephew-in-law, Mark Barros; great nieces, Charlotte Garvey and Penny Barros, and great nephew, Sammy Barros, all of whom she adored with her whole heart, as well as her Geoghegan and Cunneff cousins and dear friends.

Ann's family would like to send their love and gratitude to Vitas Inpatient Hospice nurses, doctors and staff for the exceptional care, comfort and support they provided. Words cannot express our appreciation for the level of professionalism and compassion the entire hospice team provided Ann and our family.

Ann, you were my true friend at Ursuline Academy. You were so talented and generous. I still have and cherish a painting you gifted me while we were in High School. I have always joyfully remembered our conversations sitting outside on campus on pretty days. Your blue eyes were so happy and your smile so welcoming. Looking forward to continuing our earnest conversations in heaven. Thank you for making my time at Ursuline memorable. Melody

My deepest condolences to Ann Hamilton's family regarding the passing of Ann on February 6, 2023. I only heard about her death yesterday when I visited the Medical Media Department yesterday. I was the Senior Medical Photographer in the department when Ann started to work in Medical Media at the VA and she was a great co-worker. We had some great times in Medical Media as the two photographers which eventually became 3 photographers in the department. She was a great friend at work.

It is with the deepest sorrow that I got this news today from our former boss at the VA Medical Center in Atlanta. Ann was a great friend (at work and after), it further saddens me that we only got back in touch a few times after her time in Georgia. Her laugh, sense of humor was contagious. Her photography work DOES still hang on the walls here at the Atlanta VAMC. She touched many lives here and will be missed.
