Ann S. Haskell

Dr. Haskell (Ann) taught me and mothered me and made me know that my life was limitless. What else could one want from an older wiser person, let alone, professor? I met her when I was 23. I´m 56 now and her teachings regarding everything really, are what I use in my classes. I teach AP III and AP IV. And I ALWAYS have a Chaucer unit.

Fifteen years after graduating from UB, I became a published author of medieval fantasy. Remembering Dr. Haskell's influence on me, I found her email and we had a lovely exchange where I was able to express my gratitude.

I am deeply saddened to learned today that she passed away only a few months later after that exchange. I hope she understood how many lives she touched. My college friends still speak fondly of her classes.

Ann changed my life. She was both my undergraduate and graduate professor. She was an example, a mentor, and a wise friend. She gave me support through doctorate exams and completing my PhD dissertation when I was in California and she was in Buffalo. The path of her personal and academic life became the path of my life
not necessarily deliberately but because we held so much in common and the same values in our hearts. I am so sorry I fell out of touch once I moved back East. I will never in my life forget the class she was teaching on Chaucer when she suddenly said, "Me thinks I need a midwife," and Gretl was born later that day.

As a student of Ann's, I was shocked to hear of her passing. I remember fondly helping her with a Medieval Feast at UB many years ago. She was a wonderful person and a talented scholar. Her "Middle English Anthology" sits proudly on my shelf.

She shall always be remembered.

I am so sorry to hear of Ann's death. We were colleagues, and occasional friends, and I found her an admirable woman, a strong, intelligent and warmly sympathetic person. Although I haven't seen her in years, I sincerely regret her passing, too early.
