Ann O'Hara Obituary

Ann O'Hara (nee Tully) passed away on May 13 at the age of 86. Ann was born in Binghamton, N.Y., to Jerome Tully and Edith Marks Tully. She was predeceased by her husband, John O'Hara. Ann was a graduate of Syracuse University.

She is survived by cousins, Joan Hudson (Terry), Sue Pierce, Nancy Bishop (Jonathan), Chris Pierce (Heather), Mark Pierce and Melissa Laussu (Julien); sister-in-law, Mary Gillespie (Conal); sister-in-law, Alida O'Hara (Kevin); brother-in-law, Bill O'Hara; loving aunt to Aidan Gillespie (Katie) and Noreen Ambrosi (Danny).

Ann was a life member of the Wayne County Historical Society and a former president of the Board of Trustees. She was also chairperson of the Capital Campaign Fund Raising Committee for the museum's 2008 building addition. She was an excellent genealogy researcher, a member of the WCHS Speakers Bureau, the newsletter committee and a regular contributor of historic news articles. Along with Gloria McCollough, she authored the popular book "Murder and Mayhew in Wayne County, Pennsylvania" and she was an editor of the historical society's local books and publications.

She was on the board of directors of the Wayne County Community Foundation and also volunteered there for many years as the foundation's secretary/bookkeeper. She and Jane Varcoe were co-honored with the foundation's prestigious Ben Franklin Founder's Award.

Ann was a charter member of the board of trustees and secretary of the Dorflinger Factory Museum. She was a founding member and secretary of the Local History Round Table. She was also a member and volunteer of many non-profit groups throughout Wayne County, i.e., Damascus, Equinunk, Greene-Dreher, Wallenpaupack and Waymart historical societies, plus many other organizations.

A lover of animals, she donated to various charities involving animals.

Anyone wishing to make a memorial contribution in her name can do so to the Wayne County Historical Society, 810 Main St., Honesdale, PA 18431.

A memorial service for Ann will be held July 7 at 1 p.m. at the Dorflnger Factory Museum, 670 Texas Palmyra Highway, Hawley, PA 18428.
