Ann Volz Pease

August 6, 1932 – June 6, 2023

In the company of her daughters, Ann Pease passed away peacefully at home Tuesday morning, June 6, 2023, leaving a legacy of love and kindness–gifts for her family, friends and all who knew her to keep forever in their hearts.  Ann was the loving partner of Zeph for over 58 years, who passed away in 2012.  Together they brought into the world seven children, all of whom grieve the loss of the family matriarch.  Although Ann did not have a paid profession, the raising and wrangling of that brood was a full-time enterprise, with the compensation being that we all became functioning, productive adults who in turn gifted her with grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Not to say Ann was just stuck with the kids. Ann was wise, well read, generous, and ready to travel when the opportunity arose. She had a “go and do” attitude that she learned from her mother Helen, which we absolutely cherish.

Ann Elizabeth Volz was born in Omaha, Nebraska, to Edward and Helen Volz, the eldest of 5 kids. The family moved to San Antonio in 1947 where she fell in love with all things Texas. While attending Incarnate Word High School, Ann worked for Tomco Aviation Co., the Cessna dealership, where part of her compensation was flight lessons.  Although she did not complete her pilot license, we are proud of our budding Amelia Earhart.  Ann attended the University of Texas and Incarnate Word College; however, her studies were interrupted by a blind date with Zeph Pease, recently discharged from the Air Force after serving in Korea.  Ann and Zeph were married in 1953 and made several moves around Texas until settling in Portland in 1962.  Ann had many friends and enjoyed participating in the Bridge Club, Bayshore Dance Club, volunteering for many years at the Texas State Aquarium, and traveling and golfing with the “Over the Hill Gang.”  Ann was very dedicated to her Catholic faith and served as a Eucharistic Minister, a Lay Adorer, and as a volunteer at the Works of Charity Food Pantry.

Ann’s loving family includes the aforementioned seven children and spouses: Zeph and Judy Pease of Portland, TX; Pam and Rick Cole of Rocheport, MO; Chris and Rebecca Pease of Lacombe, LA; Sue and Worth Carlin of Sedalia, CO; Mary and Ron Park of Corpus Christi, TX; Joanna Pease Farwell of Buda, TX; and Claire and Jim Ridley of Corpus Christi, TX.  The Pease lineage continues with 23 grandchildren, and to date, 13 great-grandchildren.  Ann is survived by her brothers Dick and Tony Volz, and numerous nieces and nephews. Her sister Sue Weaver and brother-in-law Tom, brother Bob Volz and sister-in-law Terrie precede her in death. We will miss our amazing mother and other family members and friends who have passed. We are grateful for their lives being bound to ours and their memories will live on.

The family would like to thank all who have been a part of our mother’s life, and especially those who helped ease her suffering over the past year through care, humor and companionship. All the staff with the Harbor Hospice have been professional and loving, especially Sandra Fontenot and Clare Gilmore who have become part of the family. Special thanks to Amanda Castro for her loving care of “Miss Ann” on the night shift.

Services will be held Tuesday, June 13 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Portland, TX.  Rosary is scheduled for 10:30 AM; Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM; Burial will follow at The Palms Memorial Gardens Cemetery, after which a reception will be provided at the OLMC Parish Hall.

Arrangements are under the direction and personal care of the professionals at Winsteads' Funeral Home. (361) 643-6564 www.winsteadsfuneralhome.com
