In memory of
Lois Ailes Ailes
June 25, 2020
I met Ann when she attended WMU here in Kalamazoo. Ann and I continued our friendship after her graduation and we did many things together and with our friends. I visited her in Florida, even her classroom. Ann was so sweet, fun-loving, caring and a good Christian friend and I also got to know her siblings. We continued our friendship mostly through Christmas letters and facebook. I heard of her illness through my brother, Fred Vlietstra, a fellow farmer with Dave. I followed Betsy as she wrote progress reports - Thank-you, Betsy! Fred called a few days later and told me Ann had passed. Fred heard this through an informal farming network of Terry Smit's, who Dave knows. Fred offered to go with me to one of the visitations since my husband is here at home taking care of his 96-year-old mother, who lives with us. I had planned on going but it ended up where we couldn't. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with all of the Pyle and the Holtrop families. I'm praying for strength, peace and comfort for all of you. Betsy, I loved the pictures you send through the years on facebook of your trips with your mother to Florida. I could tell that you both were close. Dave, I am so sorry about Ann and also care about your future without her, at least here on earth. As a dairy farmer's daughter and a sister of the current owners of the Vlietstra Dairy Farm, I know there are certain family bonds in a farming family. With Ann not being there, a big hole will be felt in your family, especially because of these farming bonds and certainly other bonds. May God uphold you and give you strength to carry on. Love to you all, Lois Ailes

So very sorry for your loss. I had the privilege of teaching across the hall from Ann's office at South Olive. Her love and pride for her family was very evident and she would eagerly share stories and updates on them whenever she could. I pray for comfort for your family as you begin this new phase of life and that the months that follow will bring many sweet memories of her to carry you through this difficult time.

Dear Family,
Many years ago, I had the privilege of being a roommate with Ann in a house with 6 other girls in my hometown of Winter Garden, Florida. We immediately became like sisters. Ann and I taught in separate Christian schools. She became a dear confidante as I was dating my husband-to-be. Later Ann was in our wedding. If I could choose a verse that depicts Ann's life, I would choose Phil. 1:21, "For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain." Ann truly lived the first part of that verse when she was among us. Now she is living the second part. I miss her. Love and prayers, Bernie Sietman, Beavercreek, Ohio

Dave, we briefly talked at Huntington's drive thru on Friday, and two days later, the earthly journey of your beloved wife Ann came to an end. needless to say, it's been a difficult six months for you and your family. Our family (me, my mother, my sister Mary and others) grieve with you and your family. Yet we believe that God is with, and may you and your family fine comfort in His presence. Tim Huyser

Dear Family,
Many years ago, I had the privilege of living with Ann as roommates in a house of 8 girls down in my hometown of Winter Garden, Florida. We were both teaching in separate Christian schools, and we became like sisters. She became a dear confidante as my husband-to-be and I were dating. Ann was in our wedding. We said that we would never forget that year, and we never did. If I could choose a verse that depicts Ann's life, it would be Philippians 1:21, "For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain." Ann lived the first part here among us. Now she is living the second part with her Savior and Lord. My prayers are with Ann's dear family, and we will meet her again. Much love, Bernie Sietman (Beavercreek, Oh.)

Dear Dave and family,
I was truly shocked and saddened to hear this news, and you all have my deepest sympathy in the loss of your dear wife, mother, and grandma.
Ann and I taught school together at South Olive Christian for many years. We loved our students and worked together to do chapels, reading groups, math lessons, and art projects. We had so much fun affecting little lives for our Lord! Ann was a dedicated teacher! I will deeply miss her. I know she made a difference with her life and is now with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ in heaven.
My prayers are with Dave, Betsy, Paul and Nathan and families.
Sincerely,
Jill OConnor

I have known Ann for quite awhile- when she taught at Borculo Chr. and I was at Beaverdam Chr. We would touch base throughout the years. Then when Ethan came home and said that he got a new job and that it was for Pyle Dairy Farm- I just knew he was in good hands! Ann would keep me posted on how things were going when Ethan started. We are so sorry for your loss!! We cannot imagine the hole that is left in Ann's passing but are certain of where she is. She used her calling as a teacher and friend to share God's love with all she met. Please know that we will uplift all of you in prayers during this time- praying for comfort, strength and peace. Love, The Grassmids Dave, Tammy Ethan and Rylea

We are so sorry for the loss of Ann. She was wonderful teacher for our three son's. She was extra patience with her students and even brought our son ice cream when he had his tonsils removed. She will be missed.
