Ann Sweeney Obituary

Ann Chadwick Sweeney, 87, Michigan City, Indiana, passed away Wednesday, March 5, 2025, surrounded by her family in Labadie, Missouri.

Ann was born on Aug. 7, 1937, in Akron, Ohio, to Evelyn and Maurice Chadwick. She grew up in Millersburg, Ohio. Ann attended Stephens College for two years and then transferred to Indiana University where she met her husband, John Hayes Sweeney. Ann and John were married July 25, 1959, and moved to Michigan City, Indiana. There they raised their four daughters, Lynn, June, Jill and Laura. After John's death in 2019, Ann moved to Washington, Missouri, and lived with eldest daughter, Lynn.

While raising their four girls with her loving husband, John, Ann spent many years volunteering. She loved her time helping the Service League, The Salvation Army and its Christmas Toy Store and teaching Sunday School at First Presbyterian Church. Ann served on the Board of Directors for The Salvation Army as well as Horizon Bank.

Ann loved the arts and enjoyed painting with her friends. She and John supported the Michigan City Arts Center, now called the Labinsnik Center. Ann looked forward to any opportunity to listen to classical music, including the Annual Messiah production and the Music Festival. Ann helped foster an interest in the arts and music in her children and frequently played the piano in her home. Ann was most known for her witty humor, love of animals and music, and her very generous heart. She was cherished and will be deeply missed.

Ann is survived by her four daughters Lynn (Mark) Becker, Labadie, and their three children and two grandsons; June (Charles) Prichard, Granger, Indiana, and their three children and five grandchildren; Jill (James) Ince, Labadie, and their four children and three grandchildren; Laura (Jim) Peyton, Granby, Colorado, and their three daughters.

Ann was preceded in death by her husband, John and parents, Maurice and Evelyn.

Ann requested a private ceremony and will be buried in Michigan City next to her husband.

Memorial donations may be made to The Salvation Army in Michigan City Indiana.
