Owatonna - Ann "Ginger" Walker, 91, of
Owatonna, MN, died peacefully in her sleep, adorned in her favorite earrings. In her final days she shared visits with her beloved family and dearest friends. She is now reunited with her son, Kevin, in eternal life.
Born January 8, 1934, to Cecelia Plaisance, Ann was adopted in 1939 by her great-aunt and uncle, Willie and Nellie Helgeson. They adored her beyond measure and created a beautiful life for her.
In 1953, Ann married Jerry Walker and soon welcomed 3 children - Kim, Kirk, and Kevin. Life was humble and full of laughter, shaped by Ann's ingenuity and humor as she managed motherhood and farm life with grace and grit.
Ann's strength was tested when she endured the heartbreaking loss of her 16-year-old son, Kevin. When told "it will never get easier," she responded simply, "It has to get better." That was Ann - steadfast, determined, and forever hopeful.
After raising her children, Ann built a new life on her own and found new adventures, partnering with her dear friend Kate Julian to renovate homes long before "house flipping" was fashionable. Later, she shared fifteen joyful years with Eric Dahlstrom, whom she fondly said "treated me like royalty."
Ann brought delight to all who knew her, teaching her grandchildren "movie-night etiquette - popcorn and candy is a must," perfecting the art of garage sales, and punctuating every message with enthusiastic exclamation points!!! She was fun, curious, and endlessly optimistic. She leaves behind a family that adored her and friendships that will never fade.
Ann was preceded in death by her son Kevin; parents; siblings; and longtime partner Eric Dahlstrom. She is survived by her children Kim (David) Maas and Kirk (Dawn) Walker; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings, and extended family who will carry forward her resilience and joy.
