Ann Wedekind

1934 - 2025

Ann Caroline Wedekind, age 90, died June 15, 2025 in Bemidji, MN.

A memorial service will be held at the Evangelical Free Church of Bemidji on July 18, 2025 at 2 PM.

Ann was born September 11, 1934, to Leonard I. and Calla (Peterson) Mattson in Chicago, IL. She grew up in Lake Villa, IL, and enjoyed living on the lake, horseback riding, and playing on three basketball teams at the same time. Ann attended a one room school house through 8th grade. She graduated from Wheaton College in 1955 with a degree in Chemistry. She played clarinet in the college band, where she met several lifelong friends, including Glenn Matthews. They married in 1956, and moved to Houston, TX, where Ann worked as a chemist while Glenn attended medical school. Laura and Neal were born to them during this time. In 1967 Ann married Roger Wedekind and moved to Zion, IL. In 1989 they retired to Fulton, MS, where they enjoyed friendships as warm as the weather. For many years they taught an Adult Sunday School class at Meadowood Baptist Church in Amory, MS. In 2016 Ann and Roger moved north to Bemidji, MN to be near their daughter Laura in their older years. Ann put her faith in Christ at an early age, and enjoyed Bible Study and Christian fellowship. She devoted her life to her family and her husband Roger, caring for him faithfully as he battled Alzheimers. Ann loved a good discussion, cross-stitch embroidery, Dr. Pepper, Scrabble, playing cards, gospel music, and jazz.

She is survived by her children: Laura (Scott) Engelstad, Neal (Angie) Matthews, Lu (Paul) Perry, Angela (Pieter) Englebrecht, Dana (Howard) Johnson, Mark (Ruth) Wedekind, and Sheila (Nick) Padilla, along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
