Ann Roberts Whitlow of Gainesville, GA passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 28, 2025. She will be remembered for her abiding faith, boundless love for her family and her welcoming spirit. Guided by an unwavering faith throughout her life, she daily enjoyed God winks and she found comfort and joy in services at Free Chapel Church. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, July 26 at noon at Memorial Park Main Chapel in Gainesville, GA. The family will receive friends at 11:00 a.m. before the service.
Born in Lawrenceville, GA on April 12, 1940, Ann was the daughter of the late Jessie Beatrice Franklin Roberts and the late Reverend Joel Preston Roberts. She was raised in the Lawrenceville area surrounded by her siblings. As a young girl Ann enjoyed traveling the Atlanta area with her father's quartet, although she always said she could not sing a lick! She possessed a wonderful sense of humor and a quick wit.
A standout point guard and all-around athlete, Ann attended Bethesda School and graduated from Central Gwinnett High School. Ann was a member of the class of 1958, Central's first graduating class.
After receiving her nursing degree, Ann spent many years as Head Nurse at Button Gwinnett Hospital. It was often said that she ran the hospital and fittingly earned the nickname "Sarge." Ann worked as an emergency room nurse at Eastside Hospital and she also worked as a nurse for Dr. Dan Martin and Dr. Fayette Sims whose offices were in the old Lawrenceville Prescription Shop. Ann always believed that nursing was her calling and she served many during her career including inmates at the Bartow and Forsyth County Jails.
Ann loved to dance and she met Andy, the true love of her life, on the dance floor. They shared a beautiful life full of adventure, travel and love. The adventure continued as they welcomed their precious great grandson Greyson into their home.
Her memory will be forever cherished by her loving husband of 43 years, Andy Aaron Whitlow; sisters Bonnie Donald, Faye Kilpatrick (Buster) and Sonja Flores; sons Eric Tillirson (Jennifer) and Brian Whitlow; daughter Melissa Watkins; grandsons Sims Tillirson (Brianne), Joel Tillirson (Dylan), Alex Watkins and Brandon Watkins; great grandsons Greyson King, Jack Tillirson, George Tillirson and Ezra Isaiah Watkins; many beloved nieces and nephews; brother in law Carlton Whitlow; sisters in law Sue Arrowood (Robert) and Bonnie Crumley (Davis) and dear friend Ryan McDonald. She is predeceased by her son Charles Tillirson, daughter Victoria Fritz, granddaughter Samantha King and brothers Jerry Roberts and Larry (Buddy) Roberts.
The family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society or to the American Association of Colleges of Nursing Scholarship Fund, in memory of Ann.
Memorial Park Funeral Home, 2030 Memorial Park Rd., Gainesville, Ga. 30504 is in charge of the arrangements.
