Ann Zarba

Zarba - Ann "Tess", entered into eternal rest on January 22, 2024. Tess, as she was known to friends and family, was born in Far Rockaway, August 1927. She attended St. Mary's Star of the Sea school and Our Lady of the Wisdom Academy in Ozone Park. She graduated from St. Johns Hospital School of Nursing in Long Island City and received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from New York University. She worked as a staff nurse in the delivery room at St. Joseph's Hospital in in Far Rockaway and the Medical and Surgical services department at South Nassau Hospital in Oceanside. In 1950 she joined the faculty of the Oceanside Public Schools as a school nurse - teacher and retired in that position from the Rockville Center Public Schools. After retirement Tess was a volunteer at South Nassau Hospital. She was an active member of the St. Anthony's Parish. She taught CCD and was a member of the Altar Rosary Society and a Eucharist Minister. Tess and her late devoted husband Tony enjoyed many years of retirement in good health. They both enjoyed gardening, Tess with flowers and Tony with a robust vegetable garden with plenty of tomatoes. They spent 25 years wintering in Florida but always looked forward to returning to their home in Oceanside. They travelled extensively, always planning exciting trips. Anthony died in December 2009 after a brief illness. In 2013 Tess moved to Annapolis, MD spending the remaining years as a resident of Ginger Cove where she met many wonderful people who brought much joy to her life. Visitation: Macken Mortuary, Island Park, NY Feb. 8, from 4pm-8pm. Mass: St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church, Oceanside, NY Feb. 9, at 9:45am. Burial: Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton, NY, immediately following.
