Anna Jean Winrow Brown was born December 25, 1930 to Arlander and Ollie (Miller) Winrow, they preceded her in death. She was the third oldest of eleven children. She attended Douglas Elementary at Earlsboro, OK and graduated from Dunbar High School at Shawnee, OK. Later in life she met and married Edward Loyal Brown. He lovingly adopted her son Ronnie Dean Brown. Anna received her Bachelor’s degree from OBU in Shawnee, OK. Anna was a faithful member of Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church.

Anna Jean lived her life being concerned about others and wanted people to be treated fairly. She was designated a member of the Gordon Cooper Technology Center Hall of Fame, where she served on the GCTC Board of Education for 14 years. By the way, Anna had a day job at Community Action Program Inc. as a nutrition specialist and retired from there. Anna was president of Cartwright Hi-Noon Business and Professional Women’s Club, was named Woman of the Year at the club’s annual banquet. By her being a member of Gordon Cooper board of education she was among those honored at the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., 78th Mid-Western Regional Conference in Tulsa, OK. Just to mention a few of her accomplishments.

Anna enjoyed cooking and was a very good cook. She baked cookies, cakes and make the most delicious peanut brittle. Her family states they are pretty sure some of you had a chance to eat her peanut brittle. She would make it and share it even with siblings in California and Kansas. Her generosity was deeply appreciated. Anna also loved to go fishing with two of her sisters, Bradie and Ollie. Bradie preceded her in death. She and Loretta played summer softball together and she was pretty good.

Anna was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Edward Loyal Brown; two sons, Ronnie Dean Brown and Donald Keith Brown; two daughters, Verna B. Brooks and Cynthia Evans; four brothers, Freeman Winrow, Orland Winrow, Joe Ervin Winrow and Robert Lee Winrow; sister, Bradie Lee Winrow and grandson, Stephen Edward Brown.

Anna is survived by one brother, John Calvin Winrow of Sulligent, AL; four sisters, Ollie Ruth Hinex of San Bernadino, CA, Dora Levarn Doolittle and Sonja Maria of Sacramento, CA and Loretta Winrow-Collins of Shawnee, OK; grandchildren; great grandchildren; nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews and a host of relatives and friends. All will certainly miss Anna Jean Brown. The staff of Shawnee Memory Care will miss Anna. She has always been the family cut up and she kept them on her toes and kept them entertained.
