Anna Burwell Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by John Everett & Sons Funeral Home at Natick Common on Mar. 6, 2026.
Anna Patricia Burwell (O'Connell), 83, of Natick, died on March 2, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer. Devoted mother of Stephen Burwell and his wife Michelle of Newton, Timothy Burwell and his wife Evelyn of Blue Bell, PA, and Matthew Burwell and his wife Dessi of Wellesley. Loving Nanna to Meredith Burwell, Hana Burwell and Sophia Burwell. Anna is survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews and was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 39 years, Richard Burwell.

Anna was born in Newton to Daniel and Margaret (Walsh) O'Connell and carried a deep love of her Irish roots throughout her life. She grew up alongside her cousin, the late Sheila (Cronin) Fahey, and many close friends from St. Bernard's School. After graduating Emmanuel College with a degree in Chemistry, Anna worked at Carter's Ink and Avery Dennison where she was awarded numerous patents for formulating highlighter inks. Upon retiring, she enjoyed traveling, volunteering at the Boston Marathon, cherishing time with her beloved granddaughters, reading mystery novels, and enjoying lively games of mahjong with friends.

Anna's family wishes to thank her cherished niece Anita Walton and her close friend Sister Joyce McMullen for their invaluable help during Anna's illness. Relatives and friends are invited to a Funeral Mass in St. Patrick's Church, Natick on Monday, March 16 at 10:00 a.m. Visiting hours in the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home 4 Park St., at Natick Common, Natick on Sunday, March 15 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in Anna's name may be made to the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur (Donate | Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur) 351 Broadway, Everett, MA 02149.
