Ann Colgan passed away in her home in Springfield on Sunday, June 29th, 2025, surrounded by her children at age 74 after a short battle with cancer.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, July 7, 2025 at Goglin Funeral Home in Tyndall. Visitation begins at 12:30 p.m. Interment will be at the Tyndall City Cemetery.
Anna was born March 13, 1951 to Barbara (Bell) and Guy Cox of Fort Worth, TX. She was one of 6 kids. Anna was raised in the Fort Worth area where she attended school and participated in the drill team before graduating from Lake Worth High School in 1969.
While living and working for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company as an "information operator" in Fort Worth, she met Robert Colgan. They married on July 10th, 1970 in Fort Worth. They lived in Texas for several years, brought Aaron into the world and moved to South Dakota where they brought 3 more children into the world. Ann began her career at the Springfield Correctional Facility in October of 1985 (MDSP) where she was known by many as "shot gun Annie or Annie 2 smokes" until her retirement in January of 2006.
Ann enjoyed her time outside with her family listening to nature around her and her wind chimes. Ann was an avid reader, specifically of Stephen King. She enjoyed many crafts, and could patch any hole with a sewing machine. More than anything, Ann loved spending time with her family and animals.
Ann is survived by her children: Aaron Colgan of Tabor, Linsey Colgan of Springfield and Courtney Colgan of Yankton; grandchildren: Kevin Colgan, McKenzie Thranum, Quinten Bartz, and Kaison Colgan; 2 great-grandchildren: Willa, age 2 and one who she never got a chance to meet; brother, Vester Spharler (Cathy) of Lakeside, TX and sister, Laura Biggerstaff of Maryland.
Ann is preceded in death by her parents, Barbara and Harvey Frailey; father, Guy Cox; her brothers, Dale, David, and Brian; husband, Robert and son, Trebor.
