Anna Hobson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 25, 2024.
Germantown - Anna Maria Hobson (neé Berthold) was born in Frankfurt am Main, Germany in 1926. She lived there throughout the Second World War losing 4 of her 8 brothers, her home, and her city. She survived to tell her children and grandchildren the stories of being conscripted and taken from her parents to work in the "Arbeitsdienst" (government service) for 2 years, surviving bombing raids and returning to Frankfurt to build shelter with what remained of the city ruins.

In 1948 she left Germany after marrying Cliff D. Robinson, an American Staff Sergeant.

Always a diligent worker, she built a life with her husband and two daughters in Memphis, Tennessee. It was unusual for a women in the 1950s to work, but never for Anna. She worked throughout her life.

It was in 1984 that she remarried Mr. Samuel Hobson of Germantown, Tennessee. Theirs was a wonderful and happy marriage. Tragically, she was widowed a short 5 years later and lived in her memories of Sam until she died.

Her life was a long, rich, and interesting one. Anna embodied dignity, discipline, and strength of character. She had a great love for her Lutheran church and lived by her faith.

She is survived by her two daughters: Aleta Hellwege Robinson and Bregetta O'Byrne Robinson, her son-in-law Klaus Hellwege, and her granddaughters Katarina Rossetti (Anthony) and Carla O'Byrne, together with a multitude of nieces, nephews, and treasured friends. We, left behind, will remember her wealth of stories, her tenacity, and her loving heart.

Services for Anna will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at 12:00pm at Christ The King Lutheran Church. The family will receive friends for visitation an hour prior to the service starting at 11:00am. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery
