Anna Ruth (Tilley) Rakes

Mrs. Anna Ruth Tilley Rakes, age 81 of Cana, Virginia passed away on Thursday, November 27, 2025, at Galax Health and Rehabilitation Center in Galax, Virginia surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Rakes was born on July 21, 1944, in Carroll County, Virginia to the late Paul Eugene and Lessie Ellen Easter Tilley. Anna was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Surviving are her daughters and sons -in-law, Theresa Rakes Semones and Jason, Tammy Rakes Bode and Lewis, Anna Marie Rakes Thomas and John Lang; honorary daughter, Sara Montgomery; five grandchildren and their spouses, Tamela Key Nichols and Donovan, Dakota Semones and Autumn Meadows, Matthew Thomas, Lora Bode Hill and Eric; Grace Lang; a great granddaughter, Katy Hill; a brother, James Tilley; along with several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Rakes was preceded in the death by her husband, James Daniel Rakes; seven sisters; and two brothers. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, November 30 , 2025 at 3:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Ronnie Collins officiating. Interment will follow in the Floyd Edwards Family Cemetery in Cana, Virginia. The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at Moody Funeral Home from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy has been entrusted with the arrangements.
