Went to be home with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at Northwoods Village. Anna Ruth was born July 5, 1932, in Kalamazoo the daughter of Theodore and Grace (Holthouse) Mejeur. She was a graduate of Kalamazoo Central High School, class of 1949 and a longtime member of Second Christian Reformed Church. On April 4, 1952 she was united in marriage to her loving husband, George VanderWeele who preceded her in death on October 12, 2003. Prior to marriage, she worked the candy counter at Woolworth’s Dept Store in downtown Kalamazoo and the Upjohn Company in the Gel Foam Dept. She was a wonderful wife, homemaker, and mother. Anna Ruth bowled for many years on Thursday nights in the Suburbanite league at Airway Lanes. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and family for two weeks in the summer, celebrating her birthday at the cabin on County Line Lake in Watersmeet, MI, where she cherished friendships with people on the lake. Anna Ruth and George loved following Western Michigan football when son, Gary, played for them and also supported the Kalamazoo Tornadoes Semi Pro football. Later she worked for many years in the winter and spring transplanting bedding plants for Phil Gernaat and Sons Greenhouses, in Kalamazoo. Anna Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George; grandson, Garret VanderWeele; siblings, George, John (Joanne) Mejeur, Trena (Jack) Meyers, and Alareka Block; daughter-in-law, Pam VanderWeele; son-in-law, Dale Flynn. Anna Ruth is survived by her children, Gordon VanderWeele, Gerald (Dianne) VanderWeele, Connie Lyn Flynn, Gary (Cindy) VanderWeele; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; brother, Ted (Jan) Mejeur; brother-in-law, Wayne Block, Sr. and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Friends may meet the family on Sunday, July 14 from 1:00pm-5:00pm and Monday July 15 from 10:00am-11:00am at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes Burial and Cremation Services, 3926 S 9th St, Kalamazoo, Michigan 49009 where funeral services will follow at 11:00am with Fred DeYoung officiating. A light luncheon will follow the service and interment will be held in West Cooper Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Kalamazoo Nature Center, Centrica Care Navigators (formerly Hospice of Southwest Michigan) or the charity of your choice.
