Loyus Steven 'Luke' Lucas

Loyus Steven "Luke" Lucas entered into heaven on Wednesday, September 23, 2015. He was 84. He was preceded in death by his devoted and beloved wife of 60 years, Edna E. Lucas, his beloved parents, Clarence and Eula Lucas, mother-in-law, Rosella Williamson, brother-in-law, Frank J. Englebracht. He is survived by and was the proud and loving father of Deanna Lucas, brother of Deanna Lambert (Donald), survived by his sisters-in-law, Linda Englebracht and Phyllis Andrieu (Hank), and also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great nephews. Luke was born in Algiers, LA, and was a resident of New Orleans, Metairie and Hammond, LA. He attended LSU, served in the National Guard and retired from LA Power and Light/Entergy after 39 years of employment. His greatest joys were derived from family, friends and many beloved cats. He was a musician, played the trumpet, piano and various string instruments. He played the trumpet professionally for a number of years before being blessed with the adoption of his cherished daughter. His other lifelong activities that he enjoyed were woodworking, photography, and fishing. He volunteered at St. Vincent de Paul in Hammond, LA, and supported many animal organizations. He was a longtime parishioner of Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Hammond, LA. Luke and Edna enjoyed many vacations throughout the U.S., Canada and Europe. Luke loved life, caring for family, friends and many stray animals. He touched all with his compassion, humor, loyalty and love. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass on Saturday, October 3, 2015 at 1:00 pm at the Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Drive, Metairie, LA. and the visitation will begin at 11:00 am until service time. Entombment will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions to St. Francis Animal Sanctuary, P O Box 0616, Mandeville, LA 70470 or Masses are preferred.
