Anna Ingber was born on March 7, 1922, in Tarutino, Bessarabia, the Black Sea area of Russia, to Alfred and Lydia Schulz Ingber. Her parents were farmers and Anna helped work in the fields from an early age. Her life revolved around family, church and friends. She finished eighth grade and always regretted that she was not allowed to continue further with her education as she really enjoyed school. Those years were hard; being the oldest child and only daughter, she had many responsibilities placed on her young shoulders.
Anna and Robert Trautwein were married on July 21, 1940. In October of the same year, they were resettled in Poland by the German government, along with her mother and three brothers, and Robert's mother and his siblings. Germany was at war, and their lives were turned upside down. Robert was conscripted into the German army and Anna was left to be the sole support and comfort to their two young sons. She was faced with many hardships and injustices during this time, but was able to persevere through her great strength and determination. They were reunited with Robert in Germany in 1949.
Through the efforts of relatives in New Leipzig, North Dakota, the family immigrated to the United States in June of 1952. In 1955 they purchased a small farm two miles west of Mott on the Cannonball River. Life was still a struggle, but Anna and Robert were relieved to finally have their own home. They also felt very fortunate to have a wide circle of friends, many of whom shared a similar background, and enjoyed many evenings of visiting, singing and reminiscing throughout the years. After Robert retired, they were able to visit relatives in Germany several times. Anna lived on the farm until 1999, when she moved to Mott.
Anna was an accomplished seamstress and especially enjoyed sewing quilts and baby blankets for the grandchildren and friends. She was well known for the excellent 'Kuchen' and family favorite dishes she lovingly prepared. She was a quiet lady with great inner strength. She said she has never been lonely, thanks to her faith, and was never bored, there was always something to be done.
Anna passed away suddenly on Friday, May 6, 2011 at the Solara Hospital in Conroe, TX. Her daughter was thankful to be by her side to kiss her goodbye!
