Anne M. Hankel, 69, of Fort Dodge, IA, died Thursday, January 22, 2026, at her home. A celebration of life gathering will be held from 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM on Friday, January 30, 2026, at the Historic Bruce Funeral Home, 923 1st Avenue South. Memorials may be directed to the family. Arrangements are with Historic Bruce Funeral Home of Fort Dodge. 

Anne was born December 26, 1956, in Fort Dodge, the daughter of Roger and Beverly (Schnurr) Messerly. She graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High in 1975. On March 31, 1978, she was united in marriage to David Hankel in Fort Dodge. Anne worked at Trinity Regional Medical Center for 30 years before retiring in 2014. Anne loved everybody! She had the biggest heart and liked being a caretaker to everyone. She was a wonderful wife & mother and looked forward to her time spent with family. She enjoyed taking care of her pets throughout the years, cleaning and cooking. She was a wonderful cook. She was also known to take part in her sisters quilting projects from time to time.

Anne is survived by her husband of 47 years: Dave Hankel of Fort Dodge; her son: Justin Hankel and wife Rhiannon of Fort Dodge; and 2 siblings: Curt Messerly and wife Sara of Fort Dodge and Paula Gibson and husband Bill of Fort Dodge. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Roger and Beverly Messerly; her daughter: Abbie Hankel; and 2 siblings: Leslie Turner and Roger A. Messerly.
