Anne Hardwick Brown McReynolds

Anne Hardwick Brown McReynolds, 81, a true southern lady with a spirited personality and a caring heart, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, November 20th. Anne found immense joy throughout her life, a joy she shared generously with her best friend and beloved husband, Sam, with whom she traveled the world and laughed much and often.

Anne was born and raised in Cleveland. She carried a strong sense of heritage and pride in her community, making a home in a place she cherished deeply. She was a devoted wife, a proud and encouraging mother to her children, Kenneth "Ken" McReynolds (deceased), Anne Reeves McCune (Ashley), and William Jackson McReynolds II (Teresa), and an adored grandmother to Samuel Pitt McReynolds, John Mosby McCune, and Adelaide Kennedy McReynolds (deceased).

A woman of keen mind and sunny disposition, Anne will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Her fun and vivacious nature made a lasting impression on everyone she met. She had a strong voice and a compassionate heart, often advocating for those in need.

Anne was an avid gardener, loving all flowers, and a competitive sports enthusiast. She enjoyed golf and tennis, and a memorable highlight was achieving the first hole-in-one at Ocean Forest on Sea Island. She also loved her Monday bridge club, Sudoku, crosswords, and entertaining. A beloved holiday tradition was her signature painting "J O Y" on the glass door of her home, a practice she held dearly since childhood. She and Sam were also dedicated Tennessee football fans, with many treasured memories of seasons spent at games in all kinds of weather.

A committed preservationist and philanthropist, Anne gave back in myriad ways. She was involved in and supported her local community through her vast knowledge, skills, and abilities, especially with the Library Foundation and Museum Center at Five Points. As a supporter of the arts, she found great enrichment in its various forms.

She had a passion for preservation, providing support locally and extending to Kentucky, Virginia and to the Golden Isles of Georgia. She and Sam extended their philanthropic efforts to charitable organizations, always desiring to give back, encourage, and build up. Anne was also a member of Broad Street United Methodist Church for 72 years where she and Sam brought their children up in a community of faith.

Anne is preceded in death by her parents, Reeves and Adelaide Brown II; her brother, Reeves "Buster" Brown III; her sister Adelaide "Debby" Stalker; her son, Kenneth McReynolds; and her granddaughter, Adelaide Kennedy McReynolds. She also leaves behind a much-loved family, each holding a special place in her heart. Childhood friends and friends made over the years who brought her such joy, will mourn her loss.

A private family service will be held to honor Anne's life.
