Anne Whitlock Peterson, age 72, passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 5, 2025, in Clinton, Utah.
Anne was born on February 16, 1953, to Della Cox and DeLoy J Whitlock. She grew up in Richfield, Utah, with her siblings Charlotte and Brent. She loved to tell childhood stories of her mother’s many pranks at the sewing factory, and her father’s run-ins with rattlesnakes at the gypsum mines.
Anne married Matthew Shawn Koontz on March 7, 1981, in the Oakland, California, LDS Temple. While dating, they enjoyed many evenings on the California coastline and at least one night of burnt pizza together. Anne and Shawn had five children: Dwight (Becca) Koontz, Crystal Koontz, Preston (Whitney) Koontz, Alexis (Austen) Jacobs, and Felicia (Clayton) Killpack. Anne’s main joy in life was caring for young children. On top of her own children, she enjoyed babysitting the neighborhood kids and served as a Nursery Leader in her LDS ward for many years. When her oldest was 12, the family moved to Minnesota. Here, Anne’s home served as the respite stop for the missionaries serving in the area. She loved, fed, and cared for many sisters and elders over the years. She enjoyed hearing about their homes from around the world. After almost 33 years of marriage, Anne became a widow. She moved into an independent living community in Ogden, Utah, where she married again on April 1, 2014, to Gary Peterson. Here, they enjoyed serving as resident ambassadors for the community. She loved getting to know and bonding with all the residents and employees of the community.Anne fought with a handful of chronic illnesses on and off as her children were growing up, eventually developing dementia, causing her body and mind to decline quickly. Her family is grateful that this part of her fight was short and that she is now at peace. She will be missed by both her family and her community as the lady who always had a joke to tell and a hug to give.
