Annette Allsbrooks Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Snowden Funeral Home - Rockville on Jul. 2, 2025.
Surrounded by her loving family and friends, God dispatched his angels on Saturday, June 28, 2025. She was born in Washington, DC on May 13, 1935, the only child of the late William Winston and Lillian Turley. A proud native Washingtonian, Annette grew up on Defrees Street NW which now serves as the Gonzaga College High School's sports field. As a child Annette joined St. Aloysius Catholic Church and later graduated from Cardoza High School, class of 1953. She married the late Robert C. Allsbrooks, Jr. at Holy Name Catholic Church in 1959.
Always a fashionista, Annette worked at Garfinkel's department store after high school and later obtained a teaching certificate from the District of Columbia Teachers College. In 1958, she began her long career with Catholic Charities, where she served as pre-school teacher at St. Ann's Infant and Maternity Home and St. Joseph's Day Care Center. Her favorite times of the year were summer field trips with her "little people" as she called them to Sandy Point Beach and Halloween where she went all out on her own costume. She retired from Catholic Charities in 2004 after 46 years of service.
In retirement, she served as a Recreation Assistant for DC's Department of Parks and Recreation where she led a class in the Cooperative Play Preschool Program at the Columbia Heights Community Center and Turkey Thicket Recreation Center. Annette loved her Cooperative Play students and Parents, developing many relationships with them lasting years beyond their time in Coop Play. As was the case throughout her career, Annette loved dressing up for the Columbia Heights Community Center Halloween parties and splashing in the pool at the Turkey Thicket Aquatic Center. She especially enjoyed the Aquatic Center's mushroom umbrella fountain. She retired a second time from DPR in 2019 after 15 years of service.
Annette loved hand dancing and annual vacations. She cherished her trips to Paris and West Africa with family and looked forward to annual Hudgens family bus trips to Myrtle Beach, SC. Whether through a kind word, a prayer, or a helping hand, Annette touched countless lives and left an indelible mark on every soul she encountered. Though she is no longer with us, her legacy of faith and love continues to shine brightly. We celebrate her life and the eternal impact she made in the name of Christ. "Well done, good and faithful servant." - Matthew 25:23
Annette is survived by step-daughter, Patricia Haynie (Reginald), daughter, Antoinette Allsbrooks, son, Robert C. Allsbrooks, III (Rachel). Also survived by granddaughter, Whitney Price (Tayvon), grandson, Robert C. Allsbrooks, IV, great granddaughters, Kinsley and Khloe Sullivan, dear friend of over 70 years, Y. Bernette Hall and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her step-grandson, Jamar A. Moore.
