Obituary published on Legacy.com by Shuda Funeral Chapel - Stevens Point on Dec. 30, 2025.
Annette Marie Gosh, of Plover, formerly of Stevens Point and
Sussex, WI, passed away peacefully on December 26, 2025, at the age of 87, while under the care of Whispering Pines and Heartland Hospice.
Annette was born July 16, 1938, in the Village of Arnott, Portage County, WI; daughter of the late Gertrude (Kirschling) Gosh and Neufrey Gosh. Growing up, Annette's parents owned a grocery store on Sims Avenue, right across the street from the St. Michael's Hospital parking lot. The grocery store left her with many treasured childhood memories, including daily visits from the "ice man", which drew the neighborhood kids to the store in hopes of getting ice chips to chew on.
After graduating from PJ Jacobs High School, Annette went on to further her education at the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point (UWSP). In 1960, she graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Primary Education. For the next 35 years, Annette dedicated her career to working with elementary students. She taught in West Allis, Plymouth, Madison, and for most of her teaching years, at the Maple Avenue School in the Hamilton School District in
Sussex, WI.
Upon her retirement, Annette continued to engage in her passion for children's literature. She returned to Stevens Point where she worked for Renaissance Learning, reviewing children's books and also for the Portage County Library as a children's librarian. In fact, Annette was an avid reader herself and always had a thick novel by her side. She especially enjoyed reading about history and expanded that enjoyment to her own family. She researched her genealogy and was the keeper of her family's history.
Annette was also artistic and enjoyed creating paintings and embroidery, especially of birds. Her lovely embroidered pieces adorned her walls and were enjoyed by all who visited. Some of her other many interests included golf, fishing, snowshoeing, cooking, and Peanuts comics and collectibles.
Annette had a big heart and loved deeply. She cherished her family and friends and was sure to show them how important they were to her. She was great at maintaining lifelong friendships and was an excellent gift giver. She had a knack for finding gifts for her nieces and nephews that were educational as well as appealing. And of course, she would wrap them so they looked like a work of art! She also enjoyed receiving cards, letters, and visits from her family. She was happy to follow their busy lives and antics from childhood to adulthood. Annette's love for others was evident in her smile.
She adored her family and was a favorite aunt because she was supportive, interesting, and fun. She invested in her nieces and nephews and made each of them feel special. Annette would make crafts with one, play chess with another, and ride motorcycles with another! She even enjoyed a Gosh Family trip to Florida in the family camper. Faith was important to Annette and she was blessed to be "Godmother" to several family and friends' children.
Annette's heart stretched even further to animals; a love that began in her early years when she would visit her grandparents' farm. Throughout her life, she had various pets for her classrooms as well as three beloved pet dogs. She also enjoyed bird watching and had a wild duck nest under her porch for several summers, laying eggs each time.
Annette is lovingly survived by her sister-in-law, Edith Gosh; 7 nieces and nephews, William (Patricia) Konkol, Christopher Konkol, Linda Erdahl, Gail (Doug) Freedman, Glenn Gosh, Elizabeth (Thomas) Rasmussen, and Anita Grinnell; 10 great-nieces and nephews; and 10 great-great nieces and nephews.
Annette was preceded in death by her parents, Gertrude and Neufrey; her sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Eric Konkol; her brother, James Gosh; 2 nephews, Gary and Mark Konkol; and 1 great-nephew, Robert Peck.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Annette's caregivers at The Lodge, Whispering Pines and Heartland Hospice for their care and support.
For those wishing to express their sympathies, the family kindly suggests, in lieu of flowers, that donations be made in Annette's honor, to a charity of your choosing.
A Celebration of Life will be held in the Spring of 2026.
