Annie Curry of Hyattsville, MD transitioned January 3, 2026.

Annie Louise Givan Curry (Ann) was born on September 14, 1937, to the late Henry and Nettie Bell Patton Givan. To this union nine children were born. Ann was the third oldest. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Henry Givan Jr. (Sonny Boy), Frederick Givan, Edward Givan, and Mickey Givan; Sisters, Mary Eliabeth Givan, Georgia Mae Givan Thornton, and Patricia Evelyn Givan Williams (Mark) and her husband’s Samuel Curry and Leroy Harper,

Ann was born and raised in Calhoun, Alabama and educated in the Calhoun Schools. She was the school homecoming queen. Following her graduation from Calhoun High she relocated to Detroit, Michigan and attended Lewis Business College. She worked several jobs before relocating to Washington D.C. in 1959. Ann started her career at DC General as a dietary aide. Known for her diligence, admirable work ethic and keen ability to connect with others, she was able to quickly move into a career as a respected and valued executive secretary for the company. After advancing her knowledge and skills as a secretary, Ann secured a position at the General Service Agency as a Clerical Typist, which eventually led her to a promotion in the Federal government as a dedicated public servant and accounting specialist for the U.S. Treasury Department in Hyattsville, Maryland. Ann dedicated 38 years of Federal service until her retirement in 2006. Ann loved to travel, especially to her roots in Alabama.

Ann was a faithful member of the Catholic Church, joining Imani Temple Church under the leadership of Bishop George Stallings. She was a faithful member for many years until her health began to decline. She was blessed to have loving children and family to care for her until her passing.

Ann will be remembered with love by her four children, Samuel Curry Jr., Jacqueline Curry, Donnell Curry, and Nicole Motes; grandson, DeJuan Thomas; great grandchildren, Destiny Trader, Layla Thomas, Kayla Thomas, Shawna Motes and Jayli Thomas; great-great grandson, DeJuan Thomas Jr. and great great great grand- daughter, Namine Satori; brother, Jerry F. Givan; sisters-in-law, Mildred Givan and Martha Givan; brother-in-law, Rufus Thornton; many nephews and nieces, cousins and dear friends. Special recognition to her Alabama and Georgia family, especially Ronda Mills for the care rendered before her demise.

Friends may visit with the family Saturday, January 24th from 10:00 am until time of funeral service at 11:00 am in The Chapel of Thornton Funeral Home, 3439 Livingston Road, Indian Head, MD 20640. Interment will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, February 18, 2025 at Maryland Veteran Cemetery, Cheltenham, MD.
