Annie Laurie Daniel Olsen

Mrs. Olsen was my teacher at Laurel Ridge elementary in the 1970´s. She had a great impact on my life and many of the students at our school. I became an English teacher who teaches English as a second language and I believe that her encouragement and mentorship influenced me as an educator. She was absolutely my most favorite teacher and I´ll always remember her positivity and compassion. She beamed with pride about her family and she shared many stories about her husband and kids with the class. We loved her stories and the unconditional love she exuded. What a special lady!

Annie Laurie was the last of our parents´ generation, all of whom were lifelong friends as well as relatives. Memories from childhood through adulthood cast her as my mother´s best friend, as Peter said, much like Aunt Nancy (Dave´s mom) was like a mother to mom (and grandmother to us boys). Annie Laurie´s sweet Southern manner was welcoming and caring to us and her interest in what we were up to was always apparent. Old photos remind me of what a mark all these times and relationships left on me. She will be missed, loved, and remembered well.

Annie Laurie was an amazing person, my mother´s best friend, and a wonderful shining example of the love of Christ for all our family. Her life story is one for the ages, rising from an impoverished background in rural Virginia during the depression era, to a well-educated refined woman who travelled the world, with more wisdom and understanding than most people I´ve ever met. She has joined her life-long partner, David, along with all the other extended family in the next chapter of life. We love you and miss you, Annie Laurie. Send our love to Laurie Lee.
