Annie Ludd Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Marvin C. Zanders Funeral Home, Inc. on Oct. 28, 2025.
Mrs. Annie Mae Ludd was born on August 29, 1927, to Harrison and Janie Dozier Sanders. She was affectionately known by her family and friends as "Snoot."
Annie Mae met James Ludd in Supmter, South Carolina. They later married in Lee County, South Carolina, on March 21, 1943. Their union was blessed with six children: Annie Bell Clinton, Willie Lee Ludd, Janie Mae Ludd, James Ludd III, Catherine Ludd Taylor, and Levone Ludd.
She attended Lincoln School in South Carolina. Over the years, Annie Mae and her husband lived in several places, including Supmter, South Carolina, Port Chester, New York, and later returned to Sumpter before settling in Winter Garden, Florida-the place they would call home. Annie Mae worked alongside her husband in the citrus grove industry for many years. She also served as a nursing aide at the local hospital and later at the local juice plant, where she eventually retired.
Her dedication to her community was evident through her active involvement in local meetings, where she advocated for vital neighborhood resources such as streetlights and access to running water. Her persistence and advocacy helped ensure that her community received these essential services.
Faith was the foundation of Annie Mae's life. When she first arrived in Winter Garden, she joined Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church. Later, she became a member of the Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Pastor David Thompson. Annie Mae played an instrumental role in fundraising for the construction of a new church building in 1968, leading efforts such as church dinners. She also served faithfully as head of the Usher Board and took great pride in keeping the church clean, often working alongside her husband to prepare for services. Annie Mae was known for her generosity and hospitality. She opened her home to visiting district and state representatives when local accommodations were unavailable. She also served on several church committees, including the Mortgage Burning Service committee, and devoted much of her time to caring for others. Whether visiting the sick and shut-in, preparing meals for those in need, or spending time with elders in nursing homes, Annie Mae lived a life of service and compassion.
Mrs. Ludd believed in presenting her best self before the Lord, always dressing elegantly for worship as a reflection of her reverence and devotion. Her life's mission was to serve others and to serve the Lord wholeheartedly.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harrison and Janie Dozier Sanders; husband, Deacon James Ludd; sons, Willie Lee and Levone Ludd; daughter, Annie Bell Clinton; grandsons, Ronnie Brown and Deon Ludd; granddaughter, Maria Adams; great-granddaughter, Kristen Thomas; brothers: John Sanders, Theodore Sanders, Willie Sanders, George Sanders, Jake Sanders, Harrison Sanders, Jr., James Sanders, and Stanmore Sanders; sisters: Emma Hayes, Annie Bell Wilson, Martha Hanks, Louise Ramsey, and Sara Pollard.
She is survived by her son, James Ludd; daughters, Janie Mae Ludd and Catherine Ludd Taylor (William); 15 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; sisters, Marie Jackson and Rosa Lee Jackson; and sister-in-law, Ellaree Dees. She has also left behind additional family members and church family.
