Anson Eugene "Gene" Cottle Sr.

Anson Eugene "Gene" Cottle, 88, of Columbus, GA died Sunday, February 2, 2025 at his residence.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, February 5, 2025 in the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory with Rev. Paul Thomas and Rev. Bud Rupel officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be held at Parkhill Cemetery following the services.
Gene was born October 20, 1936 in Columbus, GA to the late Guy Eastwood Cottle and Gracie Viola Hollar Cottle. He retired from Ft. Benning after a career as a management analyst. After retirement Gene served as Assistant Dean of Christian Life School of Theology. He was an active member of Evangel Church for many years. He enjoyed serving his church family as an usher and greeter. His faith was evident to all who met him. Gene enjoyed spending time with his family, including his four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Gene enjoyed golfing, especially with his brothers, son, and grandsons. But his all-time favorite activity was spending time with his wife Shirley.
Other than his parents he is preceded in death by his brother, Bob Cottle.
He is survived by wife of 69 years, Shirley Cottle of Columbus, GA, son Andy Cottle (CJ) of Columbus, GA, daughter, Cindy Wheeler (Barry) of Augusta, GA, son-in-law, Kenneth Holloway, of Phenix City, AL, grandchildren, Ashley Hoffman (Daniel) of Marietta, GA, Brandon Holloway (Stephanie) of Phenix City, AL, Garrett Cottle (Elizabeth) of Cataula, GA, Ethan Cottle of Columbus, GA, great grandchildren, Maddox Holloway, Jake Hoffman, Sam Hoffman, Reid Cottle, Jackson Holloway, Liam Cottle, Tessa Holloway, Eleanor Cottle, siblings, Ron Cottle (Janice) of Dallas, Texas, Joann Ward of Columbus, GA, Carol Bryan (Joe) of Buena Vista, GA.
