Anson B. Johnson Jr.

Palmyra: Johnson Jr, Anson B.; passed peacefully on Wednesday, January 21, 2026 at the age of 89. Family and friends are invited to call from 4-7pm on Thursday, January 29 at the Robert L. Yost Funeral Home, Inc., 123 W. Main St., Palmyra. A funeral service will be held at 11am on Friday, January 30 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Palmyra Village Cemetery. Anson was born on November 27, 1936 in Tarrytown, NY the son of the late Anson B. and Marjorie Morgan Johnson. He was a graduate of University of Buffalo School of Science and Pharmacy. Anson and the former Nancy Morrow were married on January 31, 1959 in the Clifton Springs Methodist Church. Anson had been a member of the Palmyra Baptist Church, the Canandaigua Baptist Church and most recently, Lifespring Community Church. Anson owned and operated Johnson's Pharmacy on Main St. in Palmyra for over 30 years having started helping his father in 1958, Even after selling the pharmacy Anson could still be found helping out the new owner. To Anson it wasn't just a pharmacy. It was his commitment to the people of Palmyra and his way of doing extraordinary things in an ordinary way often opening early or coming in on non-business hours to help someone in need. Apart from work, Anson devoted many hours to serving his church, the Palmyra Fire Department and the Board of Education. In 2017 Anson and Nancy were honored as Grand Marshalls of the Palmyra Canaltown Days parade. A setting not unfamiliar to Anson as he had driven several of his antique cars in the parade over the years. His love of antique cars was demonstrated by a 50-plus year commitment to the Genesee Valley Antique Car Club. Anson was also a licensed pilot and one of the owners of the Palmyra AirPark. At the center of all of Anson's endeavors was his great faith in Jesus as his personal savior and his devotion to his family.

Anson is predeceased by his wife of 66 years Nancy. He is survived by his daughters Jackie (Susan Elkins) VanNorman and Amy (Philip) Rupp; sons Anson B. (Teresa) Johnson III and Andrew (Amanda) Johnson; siblings Valerie (Hank) Chmielewski, Karen (Julian) Brizendine and Gary Van Johnson; grandchildren Daniel, Jeffrey and Matthew Rupp and Nick, Luke, Helen, Rebekah and Chloe Johnson; great-grandchildren Micah, Elliana and Vivian Rupp and many nieces, nephews and dear friends
