Anthony "Tony" Dorvan Bell passed away on July 10, 2022, at the age of 54, in Portland, Oregon. Though he battled serious health issues in recent months, he faced them with courage and grace, surrounded by family. Tony was a father, a son, and a brother.
Tony was born in Houston, Texas on October 3, 1967. He moved to the Seattle area in 1974, where he spent all of his mischievous early years. Being surrounded by sisters, he found many ways to bring both joy and chaos to their lives! By his junior year in high school, his family had moved on to Sand Point, Alaska. He graduated from Sand Point High School in 1985. Following several years spent commercial fishing, Tony relocated to Seattle, Washington where he joined the Navy on March 21, 1989.
While in the Navy, Tony was awarded numerous medals, decorations, and ribbons during his eight years of service on the USS Belleau Wood. Tony served as an Intelligence Center Maintenance Technician for three years and as a Class Computer/Peripheral Technician for over six years. During his time in the Navy, he met and married Naomi Nakadai from Tokyo, Japan. Together, they had one son, Alexander Frederick Bell (Nakadai) in 1993. His marriage ended in divorce after ten years. Today, both Naomi and Alexander reside in Japan. After his Navy service discharge on April 17, 1997, Tony relocated to Colorado for several years. Tony's struggle with navigating life outside of the military was compromised by mental illness. Ultimately, he settled down in Centralia, Washington, finding contentment with his dog, Katie, and his cat, Tommie. The simplest pleasures in life brought joy to Tony. He loved music, guitars, his family, his neighbors, daily trips to the local market, talking about computers, and various collections.
Tony is survived by his devoted mother, Lynda Douthey; his son, Alexander Nakadai; his sisters and their spouses, Charolotte and Greg Mace, Stacie and Joe Backus, and Brenda and Jason Webb; his brother, Justin Douthey; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, George Anthony Bell; his stepfather, Carl Douthey; and his brother, Russell Douthey.
Tony's life will be honored at a graveside service at Beaver Creek Cemetery in Twisp, Washington on July 22, 2022 at 1:00 PM.
