It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Anthony Peter DeNunzio, Sr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, on December 29, 2024. Born on June 17, 1941, in Brooklyn, New York, Anthony brought light, joy, and love to everyone fortunate enough to know him. Anthony was the son of Clorinda and Anthony DeNunzio.
He attended St. Francis Preparatory High School in Brooklyn. As his faith was extremely important to him, after graduating from St. Francis, Anthony entered the Francisan Brothers of Brooklyn for a brief amount of time. He then transferred to and graduated from St. John's University, earning his degree in business. He served his country with honor in the Army Reserve for six years, embodying the values of dedication and service that he carried with him throughout his life.
On February 24, 1963, Anthony married the love of his life, Ann Ferrara. Together, they shared a beautiful life full of love, laughter, and cherished memories. Their enduring 61 year marriage was a testament to their deep bond and mutual respect.
Anthony was a successful businessman whose career began with Columbia Record Club in New York. He later moved to Chicago, where he served as President and CEO of GRI, making significant contributions to the direct marketing industry. An entrepreneur at heart, he went on to establish his own marketing firm, leaving a lasting legacy of innovation and leadership.
Beyond his professional achievements, Anthony lived life with passion and curiosity. An avid golfer, he embraced the challenge of constant improvement. He had a creative spirit, expressed through his love for photography, painting, and traveling. Whether capturing a moment on film, exploring a new destination, or enjoying a meal at a favorite restaurant, he brought enthusiasm and joy to all he did. He also had an unwavering love for cars and movies, passions he delighted in sharing with family and friends.
Those who knew Anthony will remember his warm personality, ever-present smile, and the way he lit up every room he entered. He had an innate ability to connect with people, making everyone feel seen and valued.
He is survived by his loving wife, Ann, and their three children and spouses: Anthony (Colleen) DeNunzio, Michael (Hilary) DeNunzio, and Michele (Dave) Groose. He was a proud and loving grandfather to eight grandchildren: Anna DeNunzio, Sarah Groose, Celia DeNunzio, Joseph DeNunzio, Nicole Groose, Luca DeNunzio, Matthew Groose, and Reese DeNunzio. His love and guidance will live on in their hearts forever.
A life so well-lived deserves to be celebrated. A visitation will take place at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Glenview on January 4, 2025 starting at 12:00pm going until the time of the Mass at 1 pm, followed by interment at All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Our Lady of Perpetual Help C/O Sister Paulanne's Needy Family Fund, a cause close to Anthony's heart.
Anthony will be profoundly missed, but his legacy of love, kindness, and joy will live on in all who knew him.
