Anthony J. DiRusso, 69, formerly of Charlestown, MA, passed away on September 2, 2025, in Revere, Massachusetts. Born on June 2, 1956, in Somerville, Anthony lived a life rooted in loyalty for the lifelong friendships he made over the years. He was dearly loved by all who knew him. He has been described as a true gentleman and friend.
Anthony was the beloved son of the late Joseph J. DiRusso Jr. and Catherine (Joan) Foody Calabrese. He was raised by paternal grandparents, the late Joseph J. and Blanche DiRusso of Charlestown. He is remembered with love by his family: his aunt Susan (DiRusso) Ferry of South Boston; his sister Beth McGuerty and her wife Anne Arbuthnot of Greenland, New Hampshire; and his brother Allen DiRusso and Allen's partner Tammy Allen Harle of Concord, North Carolina. He also leaves behind cousins Michael J. Ferry and Lisa Ferry-Nee and several nieces and nephews.
A proud native of Charlestown, Anthony carried with him a lifelong love for the region's culture and history. His passion for ice hockey-especially Bruins hockey-was a defining part of who he was. During his high school years, he played ice hockey at Malden Catholic and was a standout player. Whether watching a game, lacing up to play, or reminiscing about legendary plays, Tony found great joy in the sport. He had a love of history and an appreciation for the stories that shaped the world around him. He was a cat dad and always had a cat by his side. Anthony lived at the beach and enjoyed walking along the water in addition to his love of good food and dining out.
His interests reflected a man who appreciated both the simple pleasures and the rich stories of life. From historical insights to cheering on his favorite team, Tony embraced what he loved with passion.
May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him and continue to inspire moments of joy in their lives. A Memorial Gathering will be held on October 18, 2025, at 04:00 PM at St. Mary – St. Catherine Church, 55 Warren St, Charlestown, MA
