Anthony (Tony) Gatto of Southampton, PA, formerly of Philadelphia, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loved ones on November 28, from complications of lung disease. He was 88 years old. He is survived by his wife and soulmate, Carol (Smith), his children, Dawn Keenan (Michael), Anthony (Susan), Gary (Karen), Joseph (Margaret), stepchildren Jeanne McSloy-Barron (Richard), and Scott McSloy, many wonderful grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and his sister, Ann Gatto.
Tony was a plant manager for Mrs. Paul's Foods and Gold Seal Dairies before opening, with Carol, Plumeria Originals in Northeast Philadelphia, which they operated together for many years. Later he worked in retail sales, most notably at Oskar Huber Furniture of Southampton. After retirement he drove a school bus for Lower Moreland School District, a job which he enjoyed immensely.
In his leisure time, Tony loved travelling, especially on cruises to tropical places and vacations on Lake Damariscotta in Maine, as well as attending the theater, cooking, gardening, and spending time with his extended family. When health issues limited his activities, he took great pleasure in hanging out at home with his beloved "furry boys," Vinnie and Louie.
A gathering to honor Tony's memory will be held at his home, where friends and neighbors are invited to join his family in a farewell toast. Donations in Tony's name may be sent to the Bucks County SPCA in Lahaska, PA, Shriners Hospital for Children, or your charity of choice.
