Anthony G. (Tony) Klepacki passed away on Saturday, July 3 at his home in Rockaway, N.J., where he had resided for 15 years. The cause was complications from diabetes, a difficult disease he had worked valiantly to control.
Tony was born at St. Joseph's Hospital in Paterson, and grew up in Wallington, where he graduated from Wallington High School. He then earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration from William Paterson College in Wayne. While there, he was elected president of the Student Government Association and acted as spokesperson for the 12,000-member student body and lobbied on college policy at the state and national levels. For his efforts, he was honored with the Most Valuable Senior Award in 1982.
After graduation he worked at Glen Ridge Savings Bank managing IRA accounts and then became a manager at Everything Cellular at the Rockaway Mall. When that business closed, he joined the electronics department of Walmart Rockaway.
Tony remained a skilled public speaker and meeting moderator, and participated in numerous groups and organizations over the years, many focusing on building life skills. Open and friendly, he struck up conversations easily. He enjoyed books, podcasts and videos on a range of topics from health care to history to science fiction. He also enjoyed museum trips with friends on various themes including the Museum of American Finance. Before his mobility became limited he enjoyed walking and hiking including at the Apshawa Preserve and Tobyhanna State Park. But recently he kept himself active and moving through the use of a knee scooter.
He is survived by his brother David Klepacki and sister Laura Klepacki, both of Swiftwater, Pa., as well as five cousins, two aunts, an uncle and several kind and thoughtful friends.
Tony will be deeply missed. To celebrate his life, a memorial service will be held Saturday, October 30, at 11am, at American Legion Hall Post 344, 210 Chestnut Terrace, Rockaway, NJ 07866.
