Anthony Virgil Koester, affectionately known as "Tony," passed away peacefully on July 24, 2025, at the age of 81. A resident of Annapolis, Maryland, Tony was born on September 27, 1943, in Baltimore, and he made a lasting impression on all who knew him with his down-to-earth, good-hearted demeanor and the quintessential charm of an all-American guy. Tony graduated from Calvert Hall College in the Class of 1961, laying the foundation for a life that was punctuated by hard work and dedication. He served his country as a proud veteran of the United States Army, an experience that shaped his character and instilled in him values that would resonate throughout his life. Following his military service, Tony took on the role of a machinist, contributing his skills and craftsmanship at Crown Cork and Seal and Lever Brothers (Unilever) in Baltimore. He was very proud of his work ethic and ability to provide for his family. In his personal life, Tony found joy in many simple pleasures. He was an avid fan of the Baltimore Orioles and Ravens. He would be frequently found watching Orioles games with a can of Planters Peanuts. He had a talent for making and fixing things, always ready to lend a hand, whether it be at home or for a neighbor, or one of his kids. Ocean City, Maryland, held a special place in his heart, where he cherished countless moments spent enjoying crabbing, mini golf, and picking up freshly made donuts. One of his favorite pastimes was playing Sudoku, a hobby indicative of his love for mental challenges. Tony is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of 50 years, Saphronia "Sophie" Koester; his beloved daughters, Theresa Cano (Christian "Alvin) and Jenny Marine (Colin); and his cherished grandchildren, Olivia Cano, Jackson Marine, Alex Cano, and Avery Marine. His bond with family was deepened by the presence of his sister, Mary Lewandowski (Stan), and brother, Bernard Koester (Sandy), who provided support and love throughout his life. Tony was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Mary Koester, and his parents, Joseph and Neva Koester. Their memory lives on in the hearts of those who carry their legacy forward.

As we remember Tony, we celebrate a man who enriched the lives of all around him through his kindness, humor, and unwavering spirit. His legacy will be carried forth by his family, who will continue to honor his memory and the values he instilled in them. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
