Obituary published on Legacy.com by Eannace Funeral Home, Inc. - Utica on Dec. 30, 2022.
UTICA - Mr. Anthony Lamont "Ant" Porter, III, age 40, was unexpectedly called home by the Lord on Saturday, December 24, 2022 in the comfort of his home.
Anthony was born in Utica on October 18, 1982 to Victoria (Clark) Bert, and the late Anthony Lamont Porter, Jr. As a child, his family relocated to the West Coast, initially settling in Oregon and eventually the San Bernardino, CA area where he was raised and educated. Anthony joined the United States Army, and went through basic training in Georgia. He was ultimately stationed in Hawaii. After 9/11 he toured in Iraq, and after showing great patriotism, he was honorably discharged. This experience, however, changed his life forever.
In 2001 Anthony married Crystal McBroom, and though their marriage ended they always shared the joy of their two children. Anthony and Crystal remained friendly as their kids were their bond. After his time in the military, Anthony worked with troubled teens in Group Homes while living in California. He returned to Utica, and worked as a Security Guard for a number of years before obtaining his current job at Hubbell Galvanizing, where he enjoyed working alongside his brother, DaMare'.
In his youth he was a natural athlete, and had a passion for football and basketball. The 49ers and the Portland Trail Blazers were his favorite basketball and football teams. Anthony thought of himself as a master chef although that may have been questionable according to his family! The recipes that he prepared were always done with love. He loved barbecuing, and made some mean BBQ skewers. He was also the initiator of food cook offs with family and friends, and always had a great time regardless of who the judges chose as the winner!
Anthony was an animal lover, and particularly loved his Pitbull, Onyx. Anthony took pride in his lineage, and was proud to be Anthony Porter, the 3rd!! He shared a great relationship with his dad, as he was a carbon copy of his father. He had an "old soul", and loved listening to old school music that he often stole from his mom. His mom stressed the importance of honesty, and raised him to have integrity and respect for others. He was one of his mom's "3 amigos," and they shared a unique bond.
Being a father enhanced Anthony's life. He grew into the role, and proved to be a good provider. He shared a special bond with his children, and was an active parent as he enjoyed teaching them to swim, play basketball, cook, and have fun at the park. He came from a close-knit family where many members of his family were also his best friends. Ant was a father figure and a best friend to his little sister, Ebony. He and his brother, DaMare', also shared a close bond and were inseparable. He also had a great relationship with his sister, DeShauna, whom he called often, and his younger brother, Antoine, who along with DaMare' were 3 peas in a pod! Family was very important to Anthony as he loved attending family gatherings, and holiday get togethers. He also loved spending time with his grandmother, Thelma Porter, hanging out on her front porch.
Anthony was raised in the church, and though he was private about his faith, it was evident that he was a believer.
Anthony is survived by his mother, Victoria Bert; daughter, Destiny Porter (Travell Landrum); and son, Jaiden Porter. He leaves his paternal grandmother, Thelma Porter, whom he adored. He is also survived by his beloved siblings, DeShauna Frazier-Porter, Clay Woods, DaMare' Porter, Ebony Clark, Antoine' Porter, and Christopher Hazeltine; aunts and uncles, Sabrina (Porter) (Dave) Engram, Tyrone Porter, Su'Rita Coleman, Brian Howard, Charles Atkins, Leonard Atkins, and Elijah Atkins; and great-aunt, Rosetta Davis. He also leaves to mourn a host of nieces, nephews; cousins, including Sandy Atkins, and Julius Atkins; close friend, Nicholas Connor; and step-mother, Sandy Hazeltine. He was predeceased by his paternal grandfathers, Anthony L. Porter, Sr, and Charles Loftly; and maternal grandparents, Charles Atkins and Sylvia (Clark) Sullivan.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 6, 2023 from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Anthony's Home Going Service and Celebration of Life will commence at 12:00 PM at the funeral home immediately upon conclusion of visitation.
