Anthony Paul Learman, age 36, of Kalamazoo passed away unexpectedly on December 19, 2024. He was born April 16, 1988, in Kalamazoo to Perry and Cynthia (Pieknik) Learman.
Anthony graduated from Hackett High School in 2006. He worked for the Kalamazoo Gazette and MLive doing high school sports stats. In June of 2015, Anthony took a job with GateHouse Media in Austin, Texas laying out sports pages for newspapers across the United States. He moved back home in October of 2018 and continued that work with GateHouse Media until April of 2023. In July of 2023, he was hired as a rural mail carrier for the USPS.
Anthony loved sports of all kinds, and it was a big part of his life. His true love, though, was football—he lived and breathed football. His all-time favorite team was the Florida State Seminoles, and he also loved the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. You could ask him anything about football, and he would most likely know the answer.
Anthony enjoyed playing card games, such as Yu-Gi-Oh and Pokemon. He played in quite a few tournaments and most recently started playing in online Pokemon tournaments.
Anthony was preceded in death by his father, Perry Learman, and grandparents, Henry (Regina) Pieknik and Paul (Kay) Bower.
He is survived by his mother, Cynthia (Steve) Bower; brother, Jacob (Krista) Bower; aunts and uncles: Matt (Sheryl) Pieknik, Adam Pieknik, Bonnie (Dave) Garten, Mark Bower, Bill (Geneva) Bower; as well as several cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Visitation will be Thursday, December 26, 2024, from 11:00am to 1:30pm at Langeland Family Funeral Homes Burial and Cremation Services, 3926 S 9th St, Kalamazoo, MI 49009. A time for food and fellowship will immediately follow at Jac’s Cekola’s Pizza, 3112 S 9th St, Kalamazoo, MI 49009.
